I'm surprised you were able to convince your whole family, verbally, in one conversation.  It took two major events (moving to utah, where I was a religious minority for the first time; and 9/11), and 50-some years, before I started questioning things.  And a carefully-worded email, as an agnostic, to my last family member (sister) resulted in a probably forever-broken (but still civil) relationship.

I don't think I actually convinced anyone as much as I just was the first to voice what they were already thinking.

This article is not exclusively pandemic related, it looks at why people believe various "big lies".  Covid and anti-vax are touched on, so am posting it here.  I am challenged to understand how so many can reject what is so obvious, to me.  This viewpoint helped somewhat...

It's my opinion that we even have 'gateway' drugs to belief in G*d. As little Christian kids, they start us off easy with Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. This primes the pump for the big leagues by reinforcing magical thinking. We had friends who denied their kids the 'heathen beliefs' of Santa, Bunny, and Fairy, and just force fed them a Jeebus who took care of everything that happened in a day - "I got a parking spot up front! Thank Jeebus!" Their kids did not turn out to be fundies like them.

You might be on to something, Bob.

Yes I think that the Governor find Dobbs annoying. Honest men with a strong sense of ethics and who refuse to do other than their best frequently are.

Just a little video on the Pfizer vaccine. It's beginning to look like we will need a third dose in the US.

most people in nh i know are not vaccinated, most of those are republican but the ones i know currently with covid are far left, blew my mind they didnt vax. now mass, theres only a handful of republicans anyways, about ten percent. neighbors in their 60/70's are both professors, both not vaxed, unbelievable to me but i doubt they ever step foot on a campus again. maine at the lake is mostly republican locals, vaxed, and never social distanced. of the 30 something people i know had covid, 4, maybe 5 were democrat.

side note.   spell check doesnt recognize the word covid

when you look at the covid map puerto rico is in the top 5 for vaccines. first case i saw up here was a guy visiting family down there. thinking they got hit hard early on like new york, boston, hartford which may explain why new england is strong with vaccinations

I've been waiting for prices to come back down to earth so I can buy the steel for my mezzanine.  It's nuts right now.

was quoted $1.33 per pound for hot rolled sheet carbon steel this morning, after markup i need 2 bucks a pound. thats not going to sell well. seems like last summer it was maybe 60 cents.

had a guy come in and wanted us to unroll old rusty fuel oil tanks, he was building a boat, then asked if any of the welders here would weld it together for half ownership. theres always that option.
im just looking at building a  3000  dollar refrigerator pan for a local hospital

So basically I need 4300 lbs of steel.   at $1.30/lb that's $5590, at $0.60/lb that's $2580.  So buying now vs buying a year ago is $3000 more. I think I'll keep waiting, I'm cheap.
