Not that anyone who reads this needs convincing but maybe you have some friends and family that are reluctant or obstinate about the vaccination (perhaps because they get antivax conspiracy propaganda from facebook or whatever other million sources of BS are out there).SWMBO now works for a large hospice group. She was talking to the regional staff doctor who's been with them for years. He said he's seen an an incredible number of people recover from Covid only to die untimely, early deaths from long haul complications, years and even decades before they would have given their health before contracting the virus. Some of these people are young. He said if people saw what he is seeing, they would change their minds about not getting vaccinated.I'm not sure how these are being handled in the MMWR, but health disparities are exacerbated in some people. These post disease issues are referred to as post-acute COVID-19, long-term effects of COVID, long COVID, post-acute COVID syndrome, chronic COVID, long-haul COVID, late sequelae, etc. Many people get sick, never receive diagnosis, get better then have these chronic issues. I'm not sure if they're compensating for under-reporting, they usually don't in official numbers.

For me, should you choose to decline the vaccine then welcome to the world of death roulette based on your choice. I'm sure that beats side effect roulette by several orders of magnitude.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Georgetown university did some data analysis and found five undervaccinated clusters that put the entire country at risk because of their size. These "idiot-clusters" are right dead in the middle of BBQ country.

I'm not surprised at Northeast Mississippi. I worked up there for about a year building the Natchez Trace Parkway and the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway back when I was 19. When people ask me about the area I hear banjo music.
My niece is located in that largest cluster, oil country. Strangely the Alabama cluster is centered on their state capitol -

I knew a guy who went to work for a year in Missouri. He called it Misery.

SWMBO was at her old hospital yesterday. She said it's filling up with covid patients again. And they are almost all unvaccinated and many are young.______________________________________________I love lamp..

I've been playing with numbers a bit.
350,000,000 people in the US, roughly.
Less than half are fully vaccinated, at this time.
I've read that 30% of all Americans will refuse to get the vaccine.
The fatality rate for the earlier COVID variants was 2%. We're told Delta variant is much, much worse, and affects kids.
350M x 30% x 2% (best-case scenarios) still equals 2,100,000 additional deaths.
Two caveats here:
1. 2% is probably too conservative, and the final number would be much higher,
2. We have no way of calculating how many folks have had the virus, without knowing it, so the final number could be much lower.
FWIW.

You have to subtract the vaccinated people first. Then people who have already had Covid will have some immunity, if they catch Delta it should be similar to a head cold. The problem is that they could pass it to the immuno compromised. So probably less than a million. Or the idiots could take any of 3 versions of well tested and available vaccine.
-
Just found out two friends (who are both vaccinated) just tested positive. They aren't very sick, but it just goes to show you unless everyone gets on board with the vaccination, we're just going to be chasing mutations and variants....and the unvaccinated and unboosted will continue to die off.

Just saw this: @Stormbringer, @Eoin. @CPFC1905- FYI-
U.S. citizens should avoid travel to the United Kingdom because of a spike in cases, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. State Department said Monday, raising the alert levels for the region to their highest levels.
"Because of the current situation in the United Kingdom, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants,'' the CDC said in its update.

This article is not exclusively pandemic related, it looks at why people believe various "big lies". Covid and anti-vax are touched on, so am posting it here. I am challenged to understand how so many can reject what is so obvious, to me. This viewpoint helped somewhat...

I am challenged to understand how so many can reject what is so obvious, to me. This viewpoint helped somewhat...The correlation is looking us in the face. Interesting article because most people don't "go there" when explaining our collective gullibility.I was around 14 or 15 years old, raised by a strict Catholic family, parents products of Catholic schools and upbringings. I had just gotten confirmed. Our family was walking out of the church to the car to go home. They asked how I felt. I took the opportunity to tell them. Risking alienation, estrangement and whatever other church family punishments were to come my way.I told them that I never "felt" god, as much as I tried to believe in him, it seemed unlikely to me that there was a powerful being that created everything and that could read my mind, as well as the billions of other people on the planet, and if there was, why would he give a sh*t about my thoughts?Given the size of the universe and the amount of significance assigned by the church in what is clearly insignificant in the grand scheme of things, it seemed highly unlikely that the story I was told was real.Maybe if there was just one god and everyone agreed he had whatever powers and cares....maybe then I could maybe buy it, a little. But there are thousands of religions, and their doctrines and histories reflect the history and stories of the people who documented and created the organizations. Early on, we didn't understand things like where the sun went at night, why there was a drought, for what reason mom got sick and died a terrible death. So it seems an explanation was constructed to make us feel better about why stuff happens.Anyway, to make a long story short, I told them, frankly I didn't believe in any of it and I could be a "good" person without it and furthermore, I wasn't going to pretend to believe it or go to church or pray ever again. And there wasn't anything they could do to change my mind because I felt I had enough history of man and reasoning to explain to myself that there's just things we don't know and we don't need a magical deity to explain them to us.So I never went to church again. Neither did my parents, brothers or sister. The end.
