nolaegghead said:It illuminates how much more contagious this coronavirus is vs the typical flu.Has that really been clearly established? I thought it was more the case that Covid is contagious well before most folks show any obvious symptoms (or even have any symptoms since so many folks are asymptomatic carriers) whereas the flu isn't contagious until some time after people are obviously sick. The flu makes it pretty easy to target/avoid the infected, Covid... not so much.I'm guessing that if each flu season more people were as conscientious about hand sanitizing as many have been the past year or so and those with even the sniffles wore masks (as has been the practice in Japan for decades) that the spread of the flu could be much less each year.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Other factors, such as our immune systems being more or less "familiar" with flu type viruses vs corona make a difference. Insofar as an actual minimal viral exposure that causes infection (asymptomatic or not), I don't know how that plays here. Vectors play an important role (types of environmental factors infecting various parts of the body). It's a bit different.By virtue of the high corona vs flu spread evidence, we can assume the R0 is higher for the corona virus. On the spectrum of infectiousness, not much beats measles. On the other side of the spectrum, TB and other pathogens take large numbers of individual virus/bacteria before infection.

quarantine and testing, the new rules..... have an employee that lives in nh, works in mass and falls into the essential guidelines. nh has no testing guidelines for domestic travel so he is at disney this week, not vaccinated, no rules to be tested when he returns according to the state, mass allows essential workers over the boarder. if he lived a quarter mile south in mass, quarantine and testing required before returning to work......

The 18/0 stuff they use in restaurants has low or no nickle (less shiny) but is magnetic so they can use a flatware retriever magnet to save on thrown away silverware. Not that any of this matters, the fringe madness has apparently been made acceptable at the highest levels.

the local tire guys around me are being told that the price of tires may double or tripple by fall because of the container issues, everything else shipped may just follow

I'm going to start wearing a mask in public again. This delta variant is getting out of control and you can catch it even with the vaccine (don't get nearly as sick tho). It's also more contagious than anything we've encountered before and ubiquitous -- in every state.

There’s even a variant of the Delta variant. We will probably all need a variant specific booster shot by this fall.

Populous areas of Nebraska are seeing vax rates over 50% (18 yr and up). Several of the Indian Nations are approaching 70%. Rural areas are not fairing as well. One of the ways being used to get the numbers up...LBGE, LBGE-PTR, 22" Weber, Coleman 413GGreat Plains, USA
