OT- To Mask or not to Mask-OT

As the states open up there is a fair amount of angst with the wearing or not of masks when in public places.  I can not understand the reluctance by some but... I will just leave this here (with apologies to William Shakespeare).
To "mask, or not to mask", that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die—to sleep,
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
Perhaps better suited for a Friday Zoom session.  B)
Be healthy and stay safe.

@JohnInCarolina - Game on for the on-line watering hole meeting this Friday??  And with that can I nominate my poetry for a topic of conversation-fully recognizing that by the time the bartender gets rolling it may not pass the muster??   B)

I can’t understand what folks have against taking simple precautions like wearing a mask in public. Two people wearing masks don’t protect themselves  as much as they protect each other.

How many of those people would insist that surgeons or physicians NOT wear a mask when performing procedures on them? Those masks are worn to prevent infections in the patients.

Folks who can’t wrap their brains around that should agree to forgo diagnostic testing for COVID, any treatment, and vaccination (when available). Then let natural selection do its thing.

I choose to wear a mask in public when I expect to be within 12 feet or so of people. I also choose to try to stay 6 feet away from people and not to touch things that I am not going to buy. People 30 and younger seem not to care locally.

@Gulfcoastguy - same here with the younger crowd and oddly enough with many of the older generation.

Mrs3969 got our mask back when it all started.  I think @YukonRon may have been the designer. Lol.

Masks are the key to managing the risk we’re all facing now and getting the economy back on its feet again.  Which would you rather have?  People comfortable enough to go out and about on their business because they plan to wear a mask and know others will too, or people simply deciding other folks don’t care enough to be safe and just staying home?
I agree completely , however I've come to the realization that in this country it's just not going to happen.  I don't understand why, when it's a very minor inconvenience even if it's not effective it still makes others feel safe.

@Mattman3969 I just have neck gaiters if you know what they are. It was what I could order and get ahold off. My sister has sewn hundreds like yours. She gave them to nurses where she used to work for free until the city made her shut her quilting/sewing machine/fabric shop to the public. Then she started selling them over the internet in order to pay the rent on her shop. Recently she was allowed to reopen her shop to the public with some restrictions.

@Gulfcoastguy - awesome for your sister!  I was wearing my neck gaiter for the first few days. Mine is the one I had for riding my motorcycle in colder weather and had a skull on it.  Got a few weird looks at the grocery store. Lol.

I want a cool black mask like the govment folks get.

I like that masks mess with facial recognition software, and in general authority figures would normally frown on my decision to wear a mask while carrying a gun.

Went to Costco yesterday. Sign says masks required. Wife and I each had our masks on, as did about 75% of the other customers. The other 25% took them off the minute they got out of site of the door. Not bothersome at all to wear one.

I’m in my 30’s and low risk, 100% wearing a mask in stores, takeout restaurants, and other crowded areas. I live in a fairly rural area- 2 town area of less than 10,000 people and you don’t see many people wearing them outside of those places. Its a bit of a head scratcher when I see people wearing one while they drive alone in their cars or on the beach when there’s no one with 30 yards. But hey, if it makes you feel safer, go for it.

What’s more concerning here is the “regulatory” environment the state and local governments are creating by trying to get people to report on businesses and their fellow citizens for a myriad of absolutely ridiculous sh%t...

@Mattman3969, if that was the only mask I had available, I think I would choose to stay home.   =)

woman seem to like this mask as odd as that may be =) its really messed up out there right now, near boston everyone mostly is wearing masks, in maine no masks and they are clinking glasses sociably. went to pick up a pizza yesterday and the sign says wear a mask, i go in and none of the workers are wearing a mask. seeing florida plates in maine already, thats a thousand dollar fine but no one is enforcing that with my mass plates so....im quarantined on the boat on weekends

I always masks up when going to a public place. We're requiring our techs to mask up too when going to client sites. It's our public responsibility. Science doesn't lie.

I’d say that less than 10% of the folks out in public (not restaurant workers, cashiers etc) are wearing masks in the rural areas of Georgia.

Our children's school had a zoom meeting to discuss what all they are doing to re-open. One of the parents are anti vaxxers and man what stupid people. They would not shut up and said that if the children have to wear masks then their kids won't be coming back. He was also talking about how children are the least probable to have any issues and how we shouldn't be worrying. Then the idiot mentioned how they could bring it home to their parents which negates everything he had just said. I can't believe there are people walking around us every day that are this dumb. I am so glad I do everything I can daily to not talk to people.

That mask is having the opposite of its intended effect on me.  I immediately feel the need to vomit.

There’s some recent polling indicating that when and if a vaccine for covid-19 is developed, a good percentage of Americans won’t take it.  Unreal.
