Both sides have made made missteps, but nobody is going to outdo Trumpy Bear. These are not credible stories, they're propaganda. I searched both sites for a story on Trump firing Glen Fine, the person making sure the multi-trillion dollar bailout goes to the right places, and couldn't find anything. Why is that, I wonder. Apparently Trump will now perform those duties -- yes, the same person who you wouldn't hire to work a cash register because he paid $25 million to settle a lawsuit for Trump University and was fined $2 million and ordered to shut down his alleged charity. Maybe your news sources haven't covered this story, but it's an important one.

I am guessing her level of competence in managing something like this would be much closer to Obama's than it is to Trump's.  I'll just leave it at that.

Politician Carole Baskin. What could possibly go wrong?

No fan of Hillary (or Carole Baskin) here, but if you want to start making comparisons isn't Trump's lifetime of cons, corruption, bankruptcies and bad hair more similar to Joe Exotic? The real discernible difference was that Trump won an election before he inevitably ends up in prison.

Taiwan apparently had a sound approach to their COVID-19 measures, but they're data isn't always publicised as  they're excluded from WHO.

I have friends who live in Taipei and yes, I concur.  But they are worried about the second wave there.

If we had actual China numbers and not the CCP bs , I doubt we would be "winning". Distant 2nd at best

That may well be true, but "we're only winning because China is lying!" is a pretty low bar here when there are a dozen other countries on the chart.  Don't you think?

This about sums up the whole Covid 19 fiasco:👇

China: OK there's a new virus. From now on no one moves around. If you go out, you must wear a mask. Nationwide lockdown and quarantine policies implemented.

Rest of the world: Don't trust anything these **** commies say! It's just a flu! They are trying to control everyone's life! There's no need for masks!

China: Start building hospitals so the medical system doesn't get overwhelmed.

Rest of the world: It's a concentration camp! They are murdering people out there! They are untrustworthy!

China: We are experiencing a surge of patients and this virus is super infectious via air and physical contact. We are also experiencing shortage on medical supplies and medical practitioners. Pulling everything from the country to Wuhan.

Rest of the world: Look how backward they are, not even having enough PPE for their doctors and nurses. They are clearly wrong about the method of transmission, that's why they are making everyone wear masks. They've even locked down the country and stopped the economy. What a bunch of idiots.

China: Numbers are reducing in China. People are slowly getting back to work now.

Rest of the world: **** liar! We are seeing numbers in Italy and it clearly doesn't match data from China! Millions of Chinese people must have died! It's still spreading!

    Now

China: Dude, why are things getting out of control out there? Where are your hospitals and why are you not in total lockdown? Were you just sitting there pointing fingers at me for 3 months, and did nothing?

Rest of the world: You  commies never told us how dangerous this virus is! You've been giving us false data the whole time!!!

China: I don't understand. If you never trusted me, and when I said it's a big deal, you insisted it's actually a small flu, why do you maintain that millions of people must have died in China? If you think the number of deaths must be very high, doesn't that indicate it's a dangerous virus and you should be prepared? How could you believe millions of people have died, but at the same time not recognising it's dangerous?

Rest of the world: It's only a big deal in a backward country like yours, where people are poor and unhygienic, where the medical system is still in the 50's, where the government covers up figures and doesn't alarm people how dangerous it is! It shouldn't affect advanced countries like us!

China: But it is with you and killing your people now!!! Do something about it so you can still save lives!!!

Rest of the world: Not before we found everything we can blame on you!!! It's too late for us to do something now, people will just die and eventually we'll have herd immunity, but you must take the full responsibility for it!

    Now

World: China help us. We need masks, ventilators, PPE etc

China: To the best of my ability, I'll send PPE and medical personnel.

World: You helped out of ulterior political motives to expand your influence !

    Tomorrow

    Everybody wear masks!

The story with China is always much more complicated than spun to us by whatever source in the US press.  Like the United States they’re not some monolithic group.  There are disagreements and differences of opinion over there. The government controls nearly everything, and among their citizens who’ve experienced western culture you’ll still find large disparities in views of the government.  I don’t write all of this to defend or excuse anything they have done, but rather to suggest that the picture is often much more complex than the stories we tell ourselves.

And in the theme of this thread, stay home!

@nolaegghead you are obviously the most angry person right now on here about covid, yet you post pictures of yourself out with friends fishing, working on boats, and wrenching on cars. Social distance much? Or does that only apply to others?

@JohnInCarolina do you think the Chinese govt hushed the whistleblower doctor that first warned about the virus in Dec 2019?

Did you notice that there is no comparison of cases as a percentage of the population? The US has between 320 and 330+ million people India has over a billion but most of the other countries have less than 100 million, in some cases much less.

Great point.  Let's make some comparisons that take into account population.

State of New York: population, 20 million, 138k positive cases
Country of Italy: population, 60 million, 135k positive cases

    Hmmm.

By the way, if you're looking at that chart and mostly focusing on the overall number of cases, you're missing arguably the most important information.  As a hint, the dashed lines are kind of where it's at.

Isn't it funny that you cherry picked the state of New York, which I have no doubt that you know the majority of the cases there are in New York City. In NYC, the only way you can do any kind of social distancing is to never leave your home. Half of the 20 million in that state live in NYC.

yes, you bring up an extremely good point.

When POTUS mentioned approximately a week or so ago that the US had tested more people than S. Korea... US population= 330ish million. SK population= 50ish million i.e. they had already tested 1 in 150 of their citizens as of ~2 weeks ago... 10K citizens daily. We're not even close, and won't be, the way things are going.

Re: India and its 1+ bn people... even they are doing a better job about contact tracing than we seem to be. Largest railway system in them in the world converted 6K+ berths in railway cars to accommodate patients (almost overnight) to try  and depressurize the medical system. That was also about a week ago. A country with a fraction of the $$$ spent on healthcare (and defense/intelligence) vs. the US.

Don't forget China's sizeable population. Not saying that they are being transparent about their numbers, but believe that if they really wanted to fudge the numbers, they are well capable of doing that.
