Several of our Chinese PhD students has already been harassed in public. We even have one Japanese student who was harassed.
I think it's easy for those of us who perhaps look like "typical Americans" to think that referring to this as the "Chinese flu" is not a big deal. But it is. And it's not good.
By his royal highness' logic if coronavirus=chinese flu, the 2009 H1N1 swine flu=?LBGE

Last night, after a flurry of positive messages about staying safe, this will pass, etc. one guy lets loose with, and I'm paraphrasing:
"I'm sorry if any of y'all are a liberal but it sucks that we have to deal with the phony crisis due to China teaming up with Joe Biden to create this virus so he can steal the election from Trump."We're all 1099 ISO's so not much management can do but they did delete his post.
Oh, he's the Uncle of our National VP of Sales.
With regards to the person being paraphrased, assuming they were sincere and not being sarcastic, it is important to consider how they acquired that belief. In these times that should be identified and corrected for the good of all.On a similar train of thought..... I watched the White House Presser today. There was a non too subtle overture from our president that only friendly members of the press should be allowed attendance in future briefings. From where I sit, President Trump surrounding himself with only "yes" people has contributed to our less than adequate response to this crisis.LBGE, LBGE-PTR, 22" Weber, Coleman 413GGreat Plains, USA -
Last night a lady called 911 to say that her husband has COVID symptoms and was told he could not get tested. She said that he is suicidal, even though he made no suicidal statements or threats. Medical personnel refused to go check the guy without the police going first, to confirm there is a patient.
This is not a police issue, no crime or threat of self harm was made. Why are ambulance services (or the Fire Department for that matter) refusing services? Because the system is already strained.

Also, the department had to ask the general public to stop calling 911 to report business's that are not closing after the govenor ordered (requested) non-essential business closure.Las Vegas, NV

I am a very conservative political voter and even more so socially conservative. I am just dumbfounded at how people, some of which are successful, smart people and well educated, yet think so crazily. That said, I do believe there are those who will use ANY reason to blame Trump....
Maybe I am just crazy too....
Those people.
I am dumbfounded, too, on the people that has not seen through this man, and even after this, they still do not.

I didn’t read the article but the market has been absolutely on fire. When @Botch posted the photo of the hospital being built in Wuhan to contain a possible outbreak we all should have seen the storm coming and sold stocks.South of Columbus, Ohio.

It's one thing to read stuff in the open press. Quite another to have leading scientists tell you in a closed briefing that a contagion is spreading like wildfire and that the damage could be worse than 1918."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike -
