Sometimes good ideas are contagious. Several of us were discussing ways to honor our friend Brent over the weekend. Our boy Steve @thetrim was thinking along the same lines when he graciously posted a Brent tribute cook. We would like to honor Brent (and Nichole since we all know who was doing the cooking
) by encouraging each of you to recreate a dish that Brent has posted on the forum previously and post it here along with the link to Brent’s original post.
Brent and I would talk often about the status and overall health of the forum. When things would go sideways in our opinion, we always vowed to “fix the problem” by posting cooks. We figured great cooks would restore the forum to former glory. Without our friend, former glory is unattainable but let’s give it the ol’ Wildcat try.
To participate, simply click on the “discussions”
button on his profile and decide from the many great cooks he posted.
Thanks in advance for participating and honoring our friend and his family.

Great suggestion! Ready participant.I will give the Denver Lamb ribs another go since he steered me down that rabbit hole. As you can tell from the linked thread, this lamb adventure presented a few challenges. And yes they have been intentionally relegated to the freezer since getting my a$$ kicked by them back then!Just pulled out a rack so I anticipate firing this up Weds.

I was actually thinking about this notion this morning. There are a number of posts to pick from. I'll try and do one of his recipes justice this week. It's "Smokin Gal", not "Smoking Al".

Here is an interaction I had with Brent about one his cooks back in April. His down to earth nature, compassion, and awesome wit are all evident in the response.
I told him I was going to plagiarize it. Will attempt it soon.

Norah and I are hoping that this weekend we can do some seafood as a tribute, we know it won’t be up to snuff comparatively, but want to honor him as he was always kind to us. He and some other eggheads did something very special for us.XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

Great idea - here is my tribute cook (tonight’s dinner). Brent posted this cook of grilled rainbow trout with thyme, chives and lemon. Also corn on the cobb and salad with fresh tomatoes.

My cook came to me like a lightning bolt... The first time I met Brent at his lake house in 2016 he served an appetizer in a CI pan. It was a melted Fontina bubbling pan of goodness, we ate it with crusty bread.. I think Brent may of grated the cheese, the rest was done by Nichole..
This was also the first time I met Michael @DoubleEgger and his beautiful wife..
So I am bagging that as my tribute to an awesome friend..Greensboro North Carolina

Today I took another shot at the lamb ribs originally linked here:Here is a pic around half-way thru a near 7 hour cook at 240-250*F (on a calibrated dome).I was hoping the protracted cook would really render the fat especially after getting after it on the front-end. Lots of fat rendered but still needed aggressive post-cook work .Rolled out the diamond plate like before. You get the tribute! Here's to you Dr Brent Murphy-@bgebrent. Da-n!Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
