Knife sharpening your method

I was late getting in on the work sharp amazon deal. Didn't see the deal until the next day. I've been watching it and have a hard time paying full price knowing there was a better deal.
-
I have decided to go with the KO Work Sharp. I watched several YouTube videos on sharpeners and found this to be most appealing

I have been using one for years. I get everyone has their own preference but there is no doubt this one works very well and you can get knives as sharp as you want (well beyond what you would normally want in kitchen knives). If this is the one that tickles your fancy, go forth and buy with confidence. It does exactly what it says it does.Komokaegger said:I have decided to go with the KO Work Sharp. I couldn’t even finish the demo. That thing is insanely complicated for a knife sharpener. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for it- just not for me. Even their company slogan (translated) is “We provide complex solutions to knife sharpening”. Now that is truth in advertisingJMCXL said:
Just watched a video demo of the unit. That looks amazing, makes we want one, not sure I can justify the $900 price take for the K03Jiggity said:TSPROF russian knife sharpener. Its a bit pricey but it gives absolute repeatability. Love it.

I’ll add this Masked Marvel lifehack...
when bartending, I’m *EVERY DAMN TIME* faced with dull utility paring knives. Dangerous for cutting garnishes.
1- Take a ceramic coffee mug
2- turn it upside down
3- Drag the blade over the unglazed lip of the mug
instant sharpness!!
people at the bar crack up when they see me do this.
PS - reserve this hack for the cheap knives, please

Cool idea. If you can find an older street light (mercury vapor) bulb, break off the outer glass and there is a ceramic rod (light element) in the middle. It’s about 6” long and makes a great knife sharpener stick!

Haha, seriously this may be my ignorance but that sounds like a very unhealthy knife sharpenerSouth of Columbus, Ohio.

Google “light bulb sharpener”. Lots of instructions and pictures! Made lots of these for friends and family.
-
I've done this with dinner plates at various potlucks in church basements (which have notoriously dull knives).MaskedMarvel said:I’ll add this Masked Marvel lifehack...

With all the new LED lamps out there we don’t see many mercury vapour lamps. I’ll have to remember to check out in our shop for any hiding in the back. I didn’t realize it was a solid rod.Ontario, Canada

Hi pressure sodium will have same type rod in it too. Most municipals have a lot of these in their warehouse “recycle” bins, and they usually let you have for free.

Work Sharp K/O is fantastic. I tried Japanese water stones but too clumsy.LBGE - I like the hot stuff. The big dry San Joaquin Valley, Clovis, CA

I’m Japanese water stones. Takes some time and skill but I don’t have to do it often. Has a calming sense of purpose for me.Mt Elgin Ontario - just a Large.

I've tried this route for the calming effect. Then I get frustrated because my end results aren't there due to lack of skills. Have looked at the KO Work Sharp. Didn't know of the Trizor xv. I stopped looking at Chef's choice sharpeners years ago when I bought one. It was garbage. With the recommendations here and the reviews maybe I'll take another look.gmac said:I’m Japanese water stones. Takes some time and skill but I don’t have to do it often. Think next week I am going to drop off my knifes at the local shop and let them work the magic. Will continue searching for the best at home option for next time. Thank for all the suggestions.Northern New Jersey

I agree with the above, the K.O. has been very good.
-
what is a good price on amazon for the K.O. Work Sharp? I saw one for 129$ and another for 69$....
-
The $69 price is more than likely an attachment for the sharpener. The price is closer to $129.Grader07 said:what is a good price on amazon for the K.O. Work Sharp? I saw one for 129$ and another for 69$....
I bought mine through Northern Tool. They usually have a spend $100 and get $20 off coupon."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

I got my in early December for $85 on Amazon. It was the deal of the day. I haven't seen it that low since.Grader07 said:what is a good price on amazon for the K.O. Work Sharp? I saw one for 129$ and another for 69$....~ John - Formerly known as ColtsFan - https://www.instagram.com/hoosier_egger

"Frustration-Free Packaging" is something I can definitely get behind!
I HATE thick, bubble packaging! And I hate the injuries I've sustained from them (I now use tin snips and leather gloves/face shield/steel-toes). And I hate a twice-the-size-of-Texas glob of the stuff spinning slowly in the center of the Pacific....“The best way to execute french cooking is to get good and loaded and whack the hell out of a chicken."
