I live just a few miles from the veloway in Austin, but it’s not a very bike-friendly few miles.  I like riding at the veloway, but I end up throwing my bike in the truck and driving it over there which end to end is 90 min just to do a few quick laps.  Tough to find that time in the workday and I won’t go near there on weekends.  We’ve had an elliptical and I was just ok with that.  Wife switched to a treadmill and I’d rather change out wax rings on the toilets than get on that thing.  I would love to ride on the roads again, but I don’t see sharing the roads with cars in my future.

$2k+ seems steep, until you compare that to a good bike.
    Love you bro!

If you are an avid cyclist I am pretty certain you’d enjoy a Peloton. Let me know if you decide to buy, I can give you a $100 coupon code, and I will get $100 credit for the clothing store.

The Peloton used to be about half the price. Customers thought the price was too cheap; therefore, the quality was thought to be lacking. Peloton simply doubled the price and the product took off.

I used to commute 13 miles each way to work for 5 years on the shoulder of a road people are easily doing 50-70 mph on.  @'Austinites- 620 from Dam to Anderson Mill to Oak Knoll.  Anyway never once did I not feel safe or have any close calls.

Got a job where I work from home so now I do 90% of miles on MTB trails in my neighboorhood, 5% more I throw bike in car for other trails.  That last 5% until recently I still got on the road (Road Bike or SS).  However in last 3 years I have had 3 near misses- the last time ~8 weeks ago was a car just went straight in a curve 50' in front of me at 60+ and looked like a GTA crash as it went end over end in the air for 60' or so (driver was fine)

That was it- SWMBO said you are no longer allowed on that road on a bike.

So back to start of this- I own a dumb trainer and I use it when the weather is bad and I watch a movie on the ipad while riding it.  But in general I cant stand riding indoors and prefer to be outside.  But those trainers with courses built in and training partners seem interesting enough but I would rather put those $$ in a new outside bike.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting.  The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president.

@CTMike I am 99% sure I will buy tonight . . can you DM me a coupon code?  I assume that when I use it, you get credit automatically?  If not, give me any info (your Peloton user name, etc) needed to ensure you get credit.  Thanks.

Just completed my 30 minute low impact ride. Just one word of advice, get some padded bike shorts, no need for an extra cushion on the seat as they tend to slip. Make sure you have a decent wifi set up. I ended up replacing my old router and it solved my buffering issues in my basement.

Used to put in 100 miles a week on my tri bike on the road.  Atl was never bike friendly and now is worse.  I’ll still get on my indoor trainer.  Enjoy your Peleton brother.

Lol. All this and I think I’m about to pull the trigger on a Trek Checkpoint SL 5 gravel bike. This gets me on even more isolated roads. I really do live in a cycling paradise in terms of traffic.

Saw two people get run over at once.  Old lady never stopped.  She didn't know she hit then until my dad blocked her in a parking lot.

Had an ex-girlfriend run over and killed by an 80 year old.  Long straight road, no sun, no obstructions.  She barely missed the main group, my ex was leading and wasn't so lucky.

I mountain bike, no roads for me.  The peleton is very interesting.

  • Love being able to hop on between calls or lunch time and get a workout like this in under an hour. I usually do the 30 min rides and do 15 min yoga after, then shower up in an hour or less. Im working on mobility as much as anything right now so I always add stretching /yoga in after a ride. Nearly 30 years in planes, trains, and automobiles has taken a toll on this body.

Working from home has has many perks. One is that it’s Hard to say no to 30 minutes when the bike is staring you in the face all day every day. I can burn 500-600 in 30 min (I’m sure it’s inflated but this is with a heart rate monitor and Kwh output measure combined so it’s closer than a fit bit or Apple Watch will get you alone).

For those who Peloton: what’s the experience with weight loss?
Didnt lose any weight until I changed my diet. Started riding hard again 10/1 and quit drinking as well but still ate what I wanted. Didnt lose a pound for 2 weeks. Switched to low carb and lost 11 lbs the next 3 weeks. Down 15 now (before last week but that’s coming off quickly again).

No workout will will make you lose weight unless you eat/drink right (whatever that is for you). Especially as you get older (I turn 50 next month). As much as I drink I was shocked that alone didn’t make the lbs fly off but it didnt. I can say I felt a ton better and worked out more and harder and ate way better too when I was off the booze.took full advantage of thanksgiving but back on the train until Christmas!
