Does anyone drive to work on trash day & not see a pristine piece of exercise equipment at someone’s curb?

I bought a ‘rowing machine’ for $49 back in the mid-80s, that’s when I learned of my disdain for anything indoor, stationary, & monotonous.  Late 90’s the then wife ‘had to have’ a treadmill, tried as I might to explain its destiny as a coat rack she persisted, took about 6 months for her to acknowledge there was a chance I might not be a 100% wrong cynical prick & another 5 years looking at/walking around that useless $600 pile of sh!t before she ‘let me’ give it away.  It did another multi-year tour collecting dust in my buddy's basement before he dragged it to the curb.

Getting regular effective exercise is difficult & elusive enough for most people without adding extra monotony to the mix.

^^^^^^ I have a $5k Cannondale SystemsSix as well, I know what I was getting into and yes I have a Trainer and can mount my road bike on as well...This is excellent for active recovery days and you don't want to hit the road

I do think it benefits you to have road bike experience to really get the most ...I have quite a few Full, and Half marathons under my belt, but there are times I run on a treadmill

I think they are great for cyclists but not so great to invest that much into something you aren’t sure you’ll still be using a year from now.  Guys I know that are avid cyclists and live in other parts of the country use trainers during bad weather months but they also can’t wait to get back to regular riding after awhile.

Luckily I live in So Cal so there is no real bike offseason due to weather but if I lived elsewhere I’d have some sort of indoor trainer.  I actually may still get one that I can run my hardtail on with a slick tire since I don't always have time or daylight for rides.

The ones you’ll see for sale with barely any use will tend to come from those serial hobbyists like my brother.  He’ll spend a ton of money on a bike/green egg/guns/exercise equipment/etc and get into a particular hobby for a quick minute then move on to the next thing while whatever was his focus before turns into a dust collector.

Agree, I am in central CA so can ride most times but there are times I am enjoying cranking out a nice 30 minute ride without 30 minutes of prep to ride outside---that is my favorite part

Both friends that have Peloton “bikes” have repurposed them as clothes hangers.  Although neither of them were into cycling but even my mountain bike friends who use indoor trainers get burnt out on them.  The Zwift/smart trainer suggestion @EGGcellent_Smithers made is a good one.

While I wear padded shorts (aka chamois) I also wear a shell over them, many brands like Fox come in sets like that.  Or you can find some shorts with a padded liner sewn in for cheap at REI.  Not sure if people put padding on or switch out the seat on those things but a huge mistake people make is using too much padding on the seat, saddles that I spend 8+ hours on during long rides aren’t all that cushy..
I used to ride the trainer three days a week in the winter. It does get old but better than those 35 degree and rain days for a metric.

It does, that's why I went out on the road. It makes you so much faster in the woods. I have a $10k Time Pro Team that someone could get right if they wanted it. 14.5 lbs with pedals.

Saddle Sore is real . . . but loving my bike so far, doing quick 20 or 30 min rides followed by stretch/push-ups/situps and all done in 40 mins.

WEIRD PART to me about cycling / spining . . . why the hell are my muscles not crazy sore the next day?  I jump off the bike after a tough ride, legs are jelly, struggle to climb stairs, so logic tells me next day I am going to be sore as the dickens. NOPE I wake up with legs feeling fresh - WTF.
I notced this too. I gave up all running (10k trail and HIIT style sprints) because if just hurt too much.
Since using a turbo trainer I have exercised more regularly, more consistently and with virtually no ill effects. The odd sore joint but nothing like the thudding impact of running.

I appreciate I am bumping an old thread and it is OT,  but any updates from Peloton users.  Might be tempted myself - so looking for real user experiences.   Thanks.

I have the Norditrac Version S22i...we love it although it was several months before I was " jonesing" to get on it, I have around 2200 miles for me love the scenery all over the world, don't care for the " spin classes " and find myself doing 2 rides back to back as most rides average 35 to 45 minutes and I feel better getting in over an hour YMMV

As far as reliability. I've had 1 issue that was resolved quickly , would I buy again, yes and yes I do own a very nice road bike as well, this fills the gaps

I have a stationary device that I can mount my Specialized road bike on. CycleOps, as I recall. Paid about $300 for it. As I was handing the money to the LBS clerk, I said... "I might as well burn this $300 and let you keep the trainer." I was right! Even 30 minutes on that indoor torture machine is horrible! It sits in my family room to this day, but hasn't been used in forever! I HATE HATE HATE any sort of stationary exercise equipment! I'd rather ride 2-3 hours on the road than 30 minutes indoors! Tough in the winter though.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I love my Peloton - use it at least 3 times/week. The classes are addicting, the instructors very motivating, and I am probably in the best shape I’ve been over the past 30 years. If you decide to buy, I can PM you a referral code that will get you $100 off accessories, and get me $100 towards clothing.

Like some here, i am an avid outdoor rider. i try to get in at least 200 mi a week. having said that, I bought a Concept 2 Bike Erg last year after having a hernia surgery and was banned from outdoor riding for about six weeks. As much as I hate indoors, the  Bike Erg is a damn good piece of equipment. And for $990.00  half the cost of the other choiceshttps://www.concept2.com/bikeerg/concept2-bikeerg

I do have a magnetic trainer I can put my SytemSix on but not as fun as the S22! ( I'm sure peleton as well )...today I did a Train To Terrain in San Francisco followed by a recovery in Istanbul

Thanks for your posts.  I use a turbo trainer and YouTube now - all more or less free (bike was a gift, turbo trainer £20 on Ebay and decent heart monitor £25) so I am trying to determine the gain for spend.
I accept that I am a bit unusual in that I much prefer stationary cycling,  far less life limiting than using the roads where I live.

First, you will never be able to outride the fork.

I really have enjoyed Zwift and my road bike, but moving from as magnetic to as smart trainer made a huge difference. Cheap trainers are painfully awful comparatively.

Had my peloton for around a month now and absolutely loving it! Found I am a huge fan of the 45 minute rides and definitely gravitate towards Wilpers or Alldis for my instructors and i'm looking for the best peloton diet. I am riding around 4 days a week now and was just wondering what other people's experience were with losing some weight while using the peloton? Full disclosure I am 5'10 and 185 so not drastically overweight but definitely could use to lose some lbs and was hoping this would be a great way to do just that and have some fun! Understand this will not be overnight results but would definitely be interested in other people's experiences!
