My only question is: if this forum sucks so badly, why are you still here?BigGreenBean said:
It is a free forum, right? So I'm unmoved by guilt about benefitting for free. I don't have much experience, and busier than hell, so can't post that much. But I read, read, read. I doubt seriously the Big Green mothership created this forum to discuss shaving or whatever the hell you're drinking right now, which unless it's pictured next to your last butt blast, is irrelevant. My point: I did not envision this as a general interest forum -- mid-term elections, latest cancer mortality rates, skydiving tips, or music preferences -- but a forum for folks to discuss cooking on a Big Green Egg. Anything else, unless cooking-related, belongs somewhere else. That b.s. utterly devalues this forum.Legume said:

But quit cluttering this one up with irrelevant b.s. So the 10% of content which strays from the "assumed mission" totally devalues the 90% of content that pretty much sticks to just BGE stuff.Got it.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk -

NONCOOKING THREAD -
The very people that are posting the material that you like to “read, read, read” would not come to this forum on a daily basis solely to answer the same old questions about spatchcock chickens, pork butts, or why you can’t maintain temp. The forum regulars are always eager and willing to answer questions and help out. Heck some even give out their phone number to strangers to talk them through problems. We are a typical group of people that discuss a little of everything around here. There are ebbs and flows regarding the ratio of cooks to off topic items That’s the vibe here. That vibe isn’t going to change. You can either get on board with it or find a more Encyclopedia Brittanica type forum environment. Someone posted earlier that Amazing Ribs was a safe space. That might be right up your alley.BigGreenBean said:

NONCOOKING THREADYeah but it's not in an Off Topic section. So I guess the lesson to be learned is that everything would be copacetic if folks would just learn how to properly use the effing forum selection tag when posting a new thread.Kidding...I know that still wouldn't satisfy some.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. This forum is filled with information from some of the best cooks you will find anywhere, and they just happen to also like to have some fun.
What devalues the forum are people like you.
If you are unable to get past the "BS" which occurs when people are having fun while sharing thoughts and experiences, as well as a point of views, then please take your winey, self centered, hurt ass elsewhere.

I was getting all geared up to flame the crap out of @BigGreenBean, and I had my reasons:BigGreenBean said:It is a free forum, right? So I'm unmoved by guilt about benefitting for free. Anything else, unless cooking-related, belongs somewhere else. That b.s. utterly devalues this forum.- His (I assume) few posts include “my egg doesn’t get hot” and “how do I cook a pork butt”, each of which got friendly and encouraging responses from forum regulars, including those that are unrepentant OT posters/trolls/etc and old timers who have answered these questions a million times without directing anyone to the search function (as is typical on other forums) - Where’s the gratitude, right?
- The marginal effort to scroll past OT stuff, to be fair, is not super high - How crabby do you have to be to just swipe up on your device to find the next fun cook? Amiright?
However, in the spirit of a big tent forum, I welcome his feedback:- He HAS posted a couple cooks, so he’s not a total passive consumer gravy training hypocrite. The lamb looked pretty good (though a little over for my taste), and, in spite of his direction to the contrary, I will absolutely judge him re Rice a Roni
- I, too, can scroll down
- I’m not 100% sure that it isn’t just @nolaegghead trolling the crap out of us, and don’t want to give him the satisfaction.
