Our situation is nothing at all, compared to what has been generated with this storm, on its way up here. I just wish everyone had the side of Irma we have received, instead of what our friends had to deal with down south.

We were vacationing on Hilton Head Island last week as Irma approached. As the projected path became more clear, many of the locals started evacuating Thursday and Friday. We originally decided we would also leave Friday, but ultimately decided to leave at 3:00 AM Saturday ahead of the mandatory evacuation. As we drove off the island we were literally the only 2 vehicles on the road. Very strange. Once we got back to Indiana, we monitored the local newspaper for any updates on damages and saw this article -

@Foghorn - Checking in late, because...well Florida drivers. We stayed an extra day hoping the big push to get home would occur yesterday. Bad decision. Eggin' neighbors left at 4:30 am yesterday and had clear sailing except for one short detour. We left at 2:30am today and had clear sailing until we reached Alachua county. Minimum speed of 40 mph was only a dream. Got bad gasoline at Shell station in Gainsville which caused check engine light to appear and flash then stay steady. Got off and went to a NAPA store to Lukas gasoline cleaner and went thru Orlando to get to SR528 and home. Another 11 hour drive and things to do when we got home. It is 4:30 pm and I am finally showered and sitting down. We have electricity but have a boil water notice. Joy.
Think I'll slice up some eggplant and fry on the egg. Corn on the cob is looking good to me. First world problems yeah I know.Ubi panis, ibi patria.

We have been down here in Jacksonville. Flooding is crazy. Been dropping off supplies and helping people get water out of their houses.
Starting to see gas again.
Also, if anyone is in the market for a gently used Ford Expedition I'll sell you one cheap."Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

Powerlines entangled in the oak which has caused tension and resulting in 2 separate power poles severely leaning and now almost ready to rip off the side of the house---out of the meter can/ socket. Blows because we can't begin to even clean up until emergency personnel come out and cut the tree up & away from the power line and redo the power line from the house to the first and second pole to the transformer. 8 Trees in total. Most importantly everybody is alive and well.

You know that power pole would make a nice permanent flag pole at my tailgate. That said, how the hell did they get that thing on top of the car? Would think it would be a bit of a challenge to stand up and cement into the ground without proper equipment. I'll just keep my retractable I guess.Gulfcoastguy said:
