  • The GOP hated him, but they are too blame as well. In the midterms the Republicans were sent to Washington to fight Obama. They bent over and bowed down to him. They didn't fight at all.

So I agree with you that the GOP is also responsible for Trump because the establishment candidates proved, at least to the republican voters, that they didn't have the stomach to fight.

Trump got elected because he ISN"T a politician, but the fact is that it was all a big ANTI-OBAMA (Hillary) vote.
The notion that it was an anti-Obama vote is kind of hard to square with his popular approval ratings.  That being said, I do agree that a lot of it was anti-Hillary.  I would've much preferred to have just about anyone else run against Trump, but I still didn't expect so many of my fellow citizens to look at all that he represented as being OK.
I strongly believe the biggest factors were all the Bernie supporters who felt betrayed by their party and honestly didn't think Trump had a chance to win so they felt safe in either leaving the ballot blank or throwing a protest vote at someone else. It wasn't so much a huge turnout for Trump that carried him to victory as much as it was the lack of turnout from many who couldn't bring themselves to vote for Hillary.

I did. We probably should extend the ban to some of those North African countries as well.
Just out of curiosity then, why did you mention only one of the three regions that had the disproportionate crime rate?

"The report from the BKA federal police showed that migrants from northern Africa, Georgia and Serbia were disproportionately represented among the suspects."
Excuse me for leaving the other two out. Ban those fü$kers too.
Let's just ban everyone who looks the slightest bit "unAmerican" or suspicious!  Who cares if they've lived here for seven or more years, have a family and a green card?  They left the country to visit relatives over the holidays, so they might as well be terrorists! Amirite?!?!?

Okay- several drinks in but here are my unfiltered thoughts.

Without a doubt immigrants have made this country better and what it is today. People coming here, striving to make a better way of life for their family has driven innovation.  People as a whole get lazy, and wait for others to provide, we need the new blood to help stoke the fires of improvement.

my issue is we now have to worry about people with other intentions- they don't care about wanting to make their lives better.  They want to blow up New Orleans.  Small portions of these groups don't want to become part of their new country and by the majority of their group not speaking out about the radical fractions they become part of the issue.

    http://www.nationalreview.com/article/427302/frances-fifth-column-andrew-mccarthy

So my thoughts are how do we help the assimilation- the immigrants of the past have been amazing for America because while they originally settled in their bouroughs they eventually spoke the language, became a part of society, joined the rest of the country.

How do we ensure the refugees are here to improve their way of life? How do we help them be a part of the growth and continued success of America?

I would assume you aren't for an open boarder policy? So it's logical we find a way to make sure the people we are letting in want to help.  So there will obviously be some tragic stories as we figure out a path, but don't you think it's a smarter plan than letting anyone and everyone in?

Halt the immigration until you can get a system in place that works to properly screen individuals coming into our country. I didn't agree with the Work visa ban. That's crap. You've already been vetted to some extent (likely not enough but they passed).

  • I'm sure that was completely necessary.  If you're not careful you might miss a wheelchair loaded with dynamite.

Too many folks still suffering from post 9/11 "scaredy-cat-ization" is my guess.
Risk is a statistic.  Fear is a feeling.   A classic tactic for politicians is to stoke fear, exaggerate statistics, and offer a solution for something that is statistically not that relevant.  This is part of demagoguery.

Mexican immigration has been falling for years.

Immigrants are vetted for something like 18-24 months.  No one is for open boarders, I don't know of any movement for getting rid of boarder checkpoints and the current visa/id check system in favor of an open boarder.

People with green cards - folks who are LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENTS - aren't being allowed to come back into the country.  Don't you see the problem with that?  Open your eyes man.

Take a look at how long your average Syrian refugee is vetted before coming into the US.  Then try to come up with a coherent argument for making the process more thorough than it already is.  I'll wait.

I misused the term work visa. I am 100% against people not being allowed back in who have been through the system.

Gotta hand it to these clowns.  Not everyone has the balls to deny the centrality of genocide committed against the Jewish people on Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Plus Trump support by Jews was around 25%.  One of his worst demographics.

@nolaegghead your casual dismissing the troubles in Germany is laughable and not the sentiment of the majority of Germans.

Careful what 'news' you read in the express, it's not even fit for use as toilet paper, hands down the worst newspaper in the UK for made up sh1t and political bias (they would support Trump). Owner of the Express made his money from porno mags.

Maybe Trump will have the b@lls to say screw you to Turkey and finally make April 24 Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day for victims of the Armenian genocide of 1915.

Right now, it wouldn't be very smart to further piss Turkey off.
    So, yeah.  Maybe he will.

So if the Lakers play a road game in Toronto do they have to leave Luol Deng behind because he was born in Sudan and has U.K. citizenship?

    h/t - Yglesias
I'm pretty sure that Duke Country =)  wasn't included in The Ban.

    Seriously, though - That's a good question.
Maybe Deng's [potential] predicament will prompt the NBA and other consumer-dependent sports organizations to take a  public stand.

You know - as the NCAA and NBA did during the Great Carolina Toilet Scare of 2016.

Or maybe they'll duck and hide.  's hard to know.
