I'm going to continue to try to stay out of the fray here, but just wanted to add that I think it's reasonable to expect our new president to release his tax records in order to rule out any potential conflicts of interest. I don't think it takes a cynic to think he may have something to hide. Carry on.

I keep being drawn back into this thread.

If you've never heard of Pastor Martin Niemoller look him up.  Simply, he was a german citizen, a conservative and supporter the Nazis when they came to power in the 30's.  When he learned that the Nazis were developing civil policies excluding all non-aryans from German government and society, he protested.  He was arrested and sent to concentration camps.  He survived, fortunately.  Personally, I have always found his words haunting.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me

    Except the USA.

I fear all these policies are painting a proverbial target on the United States and its citizens, corporations and interests internationally.  So far, I definitely "feel" less safe than when we had less adversarial policies with the religions, cultures and countries of the world.   Time will tell.

Doesn't seem to worry most people here these days, the constant peddling of threat levels and imminent terrorist attacks is enough for people to consent to the erosion of their basic freedoms.

It's OK.  I don't think even Trump had input on what he signed.

That's terrible John.  I've read a bunch of similar stories.  At any given time, tens of thousands of regular people affected by these executive orders.  If ISIS wanted to stage an attack, they could just sneak in through a harbor.  It's really senseless in that it doesn't stop anyone determined, yet can get the extremists that are on the fence to act.  That isn't a good thing.

I've read that the International Refugee Asistance Project put out a call for additional lawyers and got 3000 volunteers in just a few hours.

Also, our kindly neighbors to the north have begun accepting asylum applications from US  green card holders.

It is going to be a long 4 years for you guys.
We're up to five GOP members of Congress who oppose this executive order publicly right now.

Perhaps there are some issues that go beyond partisanship.  I guess the trick is to be able to recognize them when they show up.

You may be a little too optimistic, sorry to say.
So far, partisanship has won the day.  They may talk a little crap, but when it's time for decisive votes, they fall in line.   Remember Graham, McCain and "Little Marco" regarding the sec'y of state gig?

(That "freedom caucus" is no joke and they know it.)
