Bump. Made this for the family at the beach. Followed Ron's recipe to the letter, and froze them right in a large lemonade container.
I was a little worried when I checked them in the freezer right in the morning and they hadn't started to freeze yet. But by noon they were good to go. A big hit!

@YukonRon I have made several batches of this and has been great every time. However, I just thought about tinkering with it a bit. Have you or anyone else here used Bird Dog to add a new flavor to it?

@saluki2007
I have not tried anything else other than the Church Recipe. Sort of fear retribution from God if we mess up the recipe too much.......I have used vanilla infused bourbon, and it was not bad.
I say go for it, but I would think the more citrus or vanilla would be a logical path to start.
Whatch out for lightening strikes....

@saluki2007 I would tread lightly with adding too much Bird Dog. That stuff is mostly sugar and flavoring. My buddy made a party cocktail with it once, I had two drinks and a hangover for half a day.

Ron,
The gallon you left in my freezer after Lakefest was obliterated in one day at the family reunion this past weekend. Several attendees left with the recipe. Thanks brother.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga -
Diet version.

@SandyHookEgger I've only ever filled mine up in freezer bags. Did you fill the mason jar all the way up? I would have thought you would need to leave some room for expansion of the freezing water.Large and Small BGECentral, IL
-
@saluki2007 I filled it to the bottom of the metal ring. I noticed little or no expansion to be concerned about.
I like jars since it impresses the ladies and I can just hand them out.
Down side is getting the jars back and the possibility of a drunk breaking them. None broken yet. -
Also the jar in the picture is frozen.

It was our pleasure, to be sure. I am glad everyone enjoyed them. Perfect summer drink.
Hoping nobody hurt themselves too bad.

We cut the sugar/sweetener out completely - there's enough in there to give you diabetes after one serving. The juice is plenty sweet. Made a batch with pineapple juice concentrate - also delightful.

Two bags in our freezer right now. Can't wait for the weekend to enjoy them!Slumming it in Aiken, SC.

I suck at math. Is the yeild on this a little over a gallon?

Yes. And can only recommend highly.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga

These are phenomenal. Made some this summer when we were at the beach. They don't last long..."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Making a variation on these for a party here Friday night. It's possible I took the "more if you are manly" challenge a bit too seriously.

Keeping this thread alive. Evan Williams white label is my go-to mixer bourbon. Bottled in Bond so it’s boozier than the black label.

Sure, you may indeed be able to cook on the BGE, without having a Bourbon Slushie. The real question is; Why would you?
Peace my friend, welcome to the Slushie side of life.
