@DoubleEgger . I agree that any group doing these things should be handled. Rioting over a superbowl or Stanley Cup is no different.

Well, while all you pearl-clutchers complain about the sky falling, Mayor Rawlings-Blake has assigned the National Guard to stand guard on street corners.
It's gorgeous outside, so it must be nice to get some sun in full riot gear.

The media loves to race bait.  White people are wrongfully killed by the police too, but why doesn't that $hit make the headlines?  I guess a good race war just sells better.

35 years of racist housing policy is perhaps a bit more immediate.

Here's a question I've asked of both conservatives and liberals. ..what's the solution to the race divide? Still haven't received an answer.

A day late and dollar short... Call should have happened a lot quicker.  Guarantee if you were a business owner or your car was victim of the riot your tune would change greatly.

@Eggcelsior. .... I’ve made it very clear that I work with the police, and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters could exercise their right to free speech. It’s a very delicate balancing act because while we tried to make sure they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we gave those who wished to destroy space to do that, as well. And we worked very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to deescalate. And that’s what you saw.

She is saying that in course of managing the protesters. they indirectly allowed property destruction to occur because they gave the protesters space and the rioters/looters took advantage.

@tarheelmatt Maybe you're right.  So if that's the reason this was mishandled, why isn't anyone talking about voting out the governor of Maryland?  That's Larry Hogan.

Just if you didn't know, which I'm sure you do....the National Guard is under the prevue of the Governor and the Federal Government.  The mayor can't make the decision.

@tarheelmatt Please explain. **** hit the fan yesterday, so the Mayor asked to the Governor to send in the Guard last night. SOE was initiated and the NG is on scene this morning with curfew in effect.

Also, those are material things. I couldn't care less as long as my family is safe. Everything is replaceable except your life.

Obviously, a chain of events have to take place, and realize it is the governors call to do so.  My comment was skewed towards the comment made by the Mayor in which I also noted that I wasn't the most "up to date" about the situation AND maybe I took it like other have and out of context.  Some comments are staged to be of so, unfortunately.

Agree all is replaceable except for lives. However, why destroy people's livelihood that had nothing to do with the matter at hand in which they're rioting over. There are more constructive and positive ways to get resolve.

I'm not justifying anything, but rather pointing out that many times there is a context to these events that is long and often overlooked.  If you click on the link to that article I posted upstream, you will see that there is plenty of context for what is happening in Baltimore right now.

@Eggcelsior. ..reading comprehension is tough...sorry you struggle with that. As I stated I'm not saying she was right or wrong just that she did it. I think announcing it was dumb. They did exactly the same in furgeson but explain that to the store owners. Insurance may not cover it if it's viewed as a terrorist act. Gotta learn to listen dude.

Do you feel that is quick enough?  Tension was present already.

However, worse things could happen IF you lived in the area.  The fires that these people have set could have just as well been your home.  Could have been your car, with you in it.

I see your point and NOLA's point, I really do.  However, I do feel a sense of "tip toeing" around too on this touchy subject.

Protests have been going on for a week.  Largely peaceful.  3 PM Monday, a call by thug kids to go violent hit the internet.  The Mayor talked with the state to get the National guard out and Monday evening the police were overrun.  It's a big deal to call out the National Guard, and I'm sure this had been discussed by city council and the police brass in the time leading up to this.

    But there was slavery......

Good point.  They should just get over it, right?

After all, that ended 150 years ago.

And that little Jim Crow hiccup.  Shouldn't they just suck it up?

After all, that ended 50 years ago.

After all, since racism ended in January, 2009
