Read and heard the other day about some kumbayah "alternative energy" source industry-type career scientist who was trying to say we needed to come up with new sources of energy that would make us independent of middle eastern oil, but that we'd need massive government handouts to do it.
It was all "we need government money". He said it would take 10, 20, even 30 years or MORE to get the technology developed and to bring the energy to market to the point where we would see a return, but that it was good planning and as long as the industry could get government money to invest, it would make it feasible, and ultimately lead to independence.
What a typical story. Alternate energy pansies wanting government money so their new "miracle" sources of energy could "eventually" pay off. But only eventually. Not now. Decades away before independence, and they admit it. All while asking for heavy government investment. What a crock, right?
But hey oops. Turns out he was talking about the oil industry. And was asking to invest at a loss for a few decades so that we could develop new technologies for locating, drilling, and transporting Arctic oil. Not solar energy. Not geothermal. Not nuclear or anything else. Oil.
So. It's ok to subsidize oil companies for technolgy that creates independence, even if it takes literal decades. But for solar that'd be a handout to the tree hugging pansies.
