Waiting for the power to come back on, and trying to determine if/when to pull out the generator. It has now been out for 4.5 hours. ETA for it to be turned back on: 1.5 hours ago.

If you don’t do it now, you’ll be doing it in the dark...

All depends on how badly you want to open the fridge and grab a few cold ones with our without power  ;)

I'm not sure. It's my first time. We'll see soon. I also added a very small piece of hickory to it.

The Egg gave the mix a nice flavor. I think adding the small sliver of hickory was the key.

So I told my wife that I was going to pull out the generator after my post. She said to wait just a bit more and that she made an executive decision to order pizza.
I was to go get it, we would have a romantic dinner of pizza and a bottle of wine and "that is that".
So that is what we did.
    Of course.

We were cleaned up from dinner, I pulled out the headlamp. I had cleared everything around the generator, and was just going to pull the dam thing out of the garage closet, and I heard everything come back on.

I refused to let that work go to waste. I still pulled the generator out, put about 1/4 gallon of gas in it and it fired up on the second pull. When it ran out, I added a cup or so of ethanol free and ran it dry again.

    Generator power check: Affirmative

  • So, romantic dinner of pizza and wine and then you go work on the generator.

    You're doing it wrong.

If you had pulled out the generator immediately the power would have come on much sooner.

Not nearly as potentially romantic but along the good 'ol generator lines (mine is not hard-wired and being only around 6KW I need to selectively run the loads); power outage and the estimates went from a fixed time to unknown so at about the 5 hour mark out comes the rig (gotta keep the fridge cold for beer).  Fire it up (first pull) and as I complete pulling the kitchen fridge out of it's enclosure to plug it in-on comes the power.  Of course I had loaded the previously empty tank with around 4-5 gallons of gas.  Siphoned a good amount then let it run dry.  Next time the power went out, I tried the same trick-no luck.  18 hours til the juice was restored.  But the beer was cold  =)
