Just learned that the National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-1 tornado was on the ground for around 1 mile (250 yds wide) about a mile from my house last night.  That explains the destruction that I initially assigned to straight-line winds.  Better to be lucky than good for sure.  Closest encounter I have had with one of those.  There is a precipitous boundary with the debris field when one rolls thru and if I never again see it first-hand I am fine with that.
Glad nothing hit you.  Had the wife and kids in a town hit by an EF-4.  1600 homes totally leveled, but only 1 death.  Scary stuff.  Mother nature doesn't fvck around.

Beef for lunch time and then pork to go on later. The pork is belly with ribs in, fat trimmed. Might get a spatchcock chicken on later as well.

Beef out, pig in. Going out now and leaving a 21 year old in charge of the pig. What could possibly go wrong?

@lousubcap ... the EF-4 tornado (2013), that Ozzie mentioned, passed us by 1/4 mile to the north.  About ten years ago a milder one passed us by 1/4 mile to the south.  I figured Mother Nature had us zeroed in and it was time to move ...

Ouch.  Be careful up on that ladder my friend.  If I was close, I'd come over to help.

I didn't even see the ladder.  Camouflage really worked!

Be safe.  Cleaning gutters is no fun.  Especially when you lean way over to just get that last bit without having to move the ladder one more time.

@Sea2Ski, it was good. In for 9 hours! The marinade was sweet, I like sweet bark on pork. This was my first remote cook - no electronics, just a child and plenty of text messages.

Did mine last weekend.  Because of a pergola and various shrubberies, I have to clean about half of them from the roof.  I have a paralyzing fear of heights (more accurately, a fear of edges, being on a ladder doesn't bother me the least) so I'm out of breath by the time I'm finished.
Decided I'm paying for the Gutter-Helmets this year; done with this.

Headed to ABQ for the week.  I'll be visiting Sandia and Los Alamos.   Giving a talk on dynamic fragmentation at Los Alamos on Tuesday.

We did gutter helmets a few years ago.  Great investment.

Ha!  The strain rates the NW labs are interested in are just a *wee* bit higher than an Egg tipping over.

It'll be fun.  I know a lot of the technical staff at both places.  A lot of former students and postdocs there, even a few people who went to school with my father.  Beautiful country out there in the SW.

That show really did a great job of capturing some of the ethos of ABQ.   One of my all time favorite series.

I do feel bad for the elderly couple who own the house that was featured in the show, however.  People keep throwing pizza boxes on their roof.
