Finished cleaning up & seasoning my newest CI pan addition earlier this week. Decided to do some thighs. This pan was seasoned with filtered (coffee filter) rendered bacon.

Trying to be able to spend $28k a year for my daughter's education.

    For the next 8 years.

And then we'll think about college.

Sitting on my arse having some Southern Comfort and Coke. I've been laying pavers all day.

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

@bgebrent It will be a bit before the first cook - but I'll definitely be posting when I fire it up.

Getting the deep fryer and meat grinder tuned up. Going to deep fry a brisket tomorrow. Making my semi-famous Brisket Balls. The Brisket Gods will never forgive me for this, but so be it. These mother fukkers are incredible.

You have really gone soft if you need a patio heater at 74 degrees

Yeah, not something I'm enthused about.  But, she's academically beyond what her current school can offer, so we don't want to send her back for another year after this.

Plus my wife is really pushing this, so not only does "Happy wife, happy life" apply, but she's also the biggest breadwinner.

@Acn -  I would offer that the $$ toward the high-school years are definitely worth looking into.  Grades 5-8 for me require a whole lot more justification.  Went thru a similar debate around 10+ years ago, challenged the public school with their "gifted and talented program".  Worked out well, and then aced the private school placement test and garnered $$ toward that tuition.
And you've gotta be looking at an extremely high-level school for those $$.  Just an opinion...
BTW-some good looking beef ribs right there-enjoy the cook and eats.

Thanks for the notes, and we had been of a similar mind - we'd use county magnet schools until high school, and then to the private schools we're currently looking at.

What has pushed our hand is that her current school has an 'A to Z' reading program, and she finished the Z level at the end of 3rd grade.  We learned this fall that the range was for all K-5, it didn't reset when she moved up to 4th.  Also, our county changed middle school magnet acceptance from being based on grades/teacher comments to a purely lottery system.

@ Acn- In my mind there are few things you can truly provide for your children; love, time, values and education.  Hard to believe that in this day and age the school doesn't have some sort of accelerated program but I could see where that would run afoul of the current lowering of standards movement that seems to be the new norm.
Now back to the rib cook-how do you like the oakridge black ops?
