Some beautiful trees there. I’m on the fence about when to purchase. They say there will be shortages but I don’t want to buy so early as to have it die prior to the big day. I want to replicate last year’s Fraser Fir. My wife’s family cuts them in the forest yearly, but the Frasers are only available in lots, so we’ll join the family to cut theirs before picking ours up outside the grocery store. 😊

That is a great looking tree! We always get the tree the day after Thanksgiving, because the wife says so. We seem to have pretty good luck with keeping them decent until Christmas with water and the preservatives posted above.

We bought this stuff last year and it really seemed to help.

I will be on the look out for that.
I usually cut our tree from somewhere in the area as well and have it in water within 4 hours. Maybe its just our climate. Its cold so the furnace is running and blowing dry air around the house constantly. Just above 0F this a.m. Coldest morning so far

Climate could be the reason. We don’t turn our furnace on until mid December, even then it rarely runs. We are having a fairly mild fall/winter, even by Vegas standards.

I buy this stuff from the tree lot, but they have it (or something very similar) at Ace that I bought last year.

Really liked it.  Pork was fantastic, baked beans were excellent.  SWMBO and SWMBO Jr both really appreciated cheerwine in the soda machine.  Definitely thought it lived up to the reputation.

$130 for a brand new unit, same brand and size. Mounted directly to the existing sink flange and swapped in less than 20 minutes. This was the original with the house so ~17 years on the one I was replacing.

Friday after thanksgiving tradition, the Santa Claus.

Festive! We usually start the Santa Clause movies the week of Christmas and culminate the next week with Die Hard on Christmas Eve. A Christmas Story is a Christmas Day movie in our house.

Do tree lots get regular "resupplies" thru the month?  If not, I would think buying the best tree, as soon as possible, and keeping it outside in a bucket of water (which I've never seen in a tree lot) would be the best thing to do.
And if they do get resupplies, how are the trees stored at the "depot"?  When were they cut?

There was some Christmas show on CBS and I never flipped the channel after it was over. The next show on was Magnum PI. I've never seen more than 5 seconds of the show but it appears I'm missing out.

As for prolonging trees, adding sugar to your water will give some benefit.

  • @saluki2007 going to be good eats!  Growing up through the 90’s, no matter how good the Bucks look, this game still makes me nervous.
  • Certain folks around here would not be surprised, but a ravine full of packages from a certain 5 letter shipping company were discovered this week in Alabama…….
  • Just finished watching the (recorded) Duke-Gonzaga game.  What a great game.

@saluki2007 - You are setup with a real banquet regardless of the game.  Livin large with those bones.  Enjoy!

@FarmingPhD- Near as I can tell, I don't have anything coming from that general direction being shipped with the five letter company.  But you are 100% correct in that I am not surprised.

I saw the headline and immediately thought of you and cen-Tex (I think) - the wine club shipment story specifically, although pretty sure that didn’t end up in a ravine.

Agreed. My fandom didn’t really turn on until the late 90s. My first OSU UofM game was ‘02 in the shoe. That day was when I became a die hard.
