  • Nursing either a stomach flu, or food poisoning. Had dinner with my lady at one of my favourite restaurants last evening and by the middle of the night, I was fully sick. Feeling a little better after the day in bed, but still getting over it. Hoping that it is food poisoning such that I won’t give it to my wife and kids (one of whom is a two month old baby).
    Hoping for the best for you as well. You didn’t replace a city lift station pump yesterday by chance? Asking for @fishlessman. Usually hepatitis takes a bit to set in
    Thanks, friend.

    Oh no! I would most definitely take the sick day like @northGAcock suggested.

    LOL.  Company rented a suite for us.  This was close to first pitch.  It did fill in some more, but was still a real small crowd.

    Last night, an officer here was returning home and saw a group of men surrounding another. Instead of just going home, as many would, he stepped in, attempting to diffuse the situation.  The group turned toward him with at least one in the group having a gun. The officer was shot three times in the leg. Luckily he too was armed and returned fire. The men fled. Luckily a short time later they were stopped during a vehicle stop. Two of the group were shot.
    Reports are both the officer and suspects suffered non-life threatening wounds. Even off duty he was a cop. He prevented what could have possibly been a robbery or murder.
    God bless you guys.
    Fortunately you and your colleagues are out there doing the serious business around the clock.  We are indeed blessed to have you and your fellow officers willing to do the heavy lifting to moderate what is becoming an even more lawless society at every turn.  A sad commentary for us all.
    Thank you for your dedication.

    I appreciate it, It's an interesting line of work!  I am trying to expand my qualifications and being certified to take them out of the secure confines of the institution is a good step in that direction.

    Interesting work meaning I see the worst people every day and often have conversations with them about random stuff. It's pretty wild talking to a terrorist or a murderer about their favorite foods or what their past job was, etc.

    Good show.

    Not sure where TF I’ve been, but glad I found it.

    After seeing the extended netting installed at many ballparks on the news lately, it kinda looks like there's Plexiglass filling in below that silver rail, is that the case?
    If so, a lot of money spent to provide protection for only the bottom row of fans, methinks.
    I suspect those are there more to prevent people from leaning too far over the railing and falling to the seats below, rather than to stop baseballs from hitting fans.
    ???  But the Plexiglas is only under the railings....

    Game-week 3 and things are taking shape;

    Man City, it turns out, have been getting away with cheap fouls to help them achieve dominance.  That and loads of really really good players.

    Liverpool are  ‘bang up for it’, Chelsea are kind of struggling and the teams who bought well in the Summer are doing better than those who didn’t (Crystal Palace, I’m looking at you).

    We’re underway tonight with Aston Villa welcoming Everton.  The clash of two minor suburbs within their respective better known cities.   Not going well for Villa.  Everton taking all three back up the M6, 2-1 the Toffees.

    Saturday;

    Norwich host Chelsea.  Not been a magnificent start for the axis of power that is Delia Smith and Stephen Fry - you might need to to Google them both.   Chelsea should have enough but its not for certain.  That said, 1-0 to Super-Frank’s Blues.  That really sounds like a band at your local bar, doesn’t it?

    Brighton see Southampton come to town.  A South coast derby if you will.  But thats just a random effort to inject interest in a mediocre clash.  I hope Saints find form and whack the Seagulls 187 - 0.  They won’t.  I can see a home win here.  Which is sad.  So 1-0 Brighton with a side bet on 2-2.

    Palace welcome back Aaron Wan-Bissaka,   the one who did get away in the Summer, as Ole’s Man Utd visit fortress Selhurst.  They will win at a canter.  I will become apoplectic with rage because that’s what Palace do to me.  1-0 Utd, goal in either the 2nd or 89th minute - after a Palace throw-in that deflects off a defender, a discarded burger wrapper and a passing pigeon.  Because thats just the way it is at Palace right now.

    Sheff Utd will lose to Leicester, because the Foxes are a decent sensible team and will do the decent sensible thing by beating the new boys. (Unlike Palace!!!!!)  2-0 Leicester.

    Watford & West Ham are both mid-table odd-bods.  Could go either way but draw is likely with each satisfied not to lose. 1-1.

    Oooh, the mighty Reds get a visit from newly energised Gunners.  Unai’s lads have started well and seem to actually mean it this time.  This is a team whose players have been too urbane, for 20 odd years, to worry about minutiae like winning matches and simply glided to between 4th and 6th powered by free-thought, haut couture and egalitarianism.   But the hosts are a magnificent bundle of fun right now.  A mad-cap 5-4 to Liverpool seems both the most and least likely outcome.

    We pause for thought now, to reminisce about the glory days of Tony Pulis, Kenwyne Jones, Abdoulaye Faye and our great friend @Eoin Stoke are having what can only be described as a shocker so far;  4 games in and just a point on the board.    It gets no better as Leeds are the next visitors, travelling all the way down from he top of the table.  Though times, but remember that Place went 7 games with not even a goal two years ago. and stayed up.  Hang in there brother.   But 2-0 to Leeds looks probable.

    Sunday;

    This week Man City will beat….. Bournemouth 2-0.   It might actually be a bit harder than that as the hosts are robust this season.   Something other than all three points will spice things up - however Pep has so much quality to call upon & will probably tough it out for 2-1.

    Spurs are next up to stamp out the quasi-resurgence of Newcastle.  Spurs are looking sharp, the Toon are not.  More fury amongst the fans and the Poch’s men roll on.  3-0.

    Last up is ‘grim midland town vs grim northern town’.  Wolves are doing well in Europe, but spinning that plate and the league is tough - as indeed Burnley discovered last year.  Sooner or later it will catch up with Wolves.  In fact this Sunday is when it will.  Burnley are looking solid and I would assume this is three points in the bag for scary-Dyche.  1-0 (at least)

    Otherwise - its Bank Holiday weekend here and sun is forecast, so I am planning major Egg time.

    Chin chin and mind how you go.

    @saluki2007 I was at my Costco about 3 weeks ago to get 2 packs of caps for an important dinner.  That is when I heard the news - from the meat cutter himself.  I begged and pleaded for him to have “forgot” they were not cutting them anymore.  He refused.    I felt like the guy in the article you posted a link to.  Bummed big time.

    If you look closely, you will see that the plexiglass and the “railing” on top didn’t used to be there. It’s an add-on.

    It’s a barrier that’s high enough to stop the idiots from falling while still being clear so that you can see through it to the game below.

    We're having a lot of trouble with William's school / residential placement at the moment (our severely autistic 16 year old). Lots of lawyer stuff going on. Hard to concentrate on work sometimes, it helps to take a bit of time out.

    Just cut them yourself. Buy a whole rib roll and cut off the cap. Then cut up the rest into center cut ribeye steaks and you will have cap steaks for $7 a pound instead of $20.
