    Working off very limited information....

My guess is your calipers didn't release. The friction caused the heat, smoke and a total failure of your brakes (front?).

There are some other reasons this could have happened...sometimes a grove in the rotor can lock the pads, sometimes the pins the calipers float on can stick, less common is a problem with the mechanics and brake master cylinder (the return holes get stopped up) and very very rare is a problem with the ABS.   Also, almost non-existant, would be a pump issue for the brake assist (diesels have no vacuum).

So for front brakes (rear are cheaper)

New calipers - about $90 each, but a rebuild kit is around $4.
New rotors - about $35-45 each
    Pads - about $45 a set

Plus new fluid, pins, bolts - maybe $30 in misc.

So if you rebuild the rotors, assuming the pistons and casings are fine, you're looking at a total of around $180 plus your time.  Add 180 or so to that if you buy new calipers.   Not that bad, really.  The amount of work replacing calipers is the same as just doing pads/rotors except you'll need to replace your brake fluid, which it sounds like you need to do anyway - likely that was the cause of this whole problem.

Again, I'd need some history on the truck.

Prices may vary, I looked them up based on a late 2000s 2500 diesel.  I have a Ram also, did my back brakes/rotors a few months back, cost me $85.  Did my brake fluid a few years back, so it should be fine for another year or two.

I know, I always have to share the best of the best!!!

@DuckDogDr might want to inspect the wheel bearings for grease leakage or a burning oil smell.  If the rotors got hot, so did the wheel bearing.  Good chance they are fine, but if there's play or a weird sound when you turn the wheels, better to dig deeper rather than finish the brakes and then have to tear the brakes off again to replace the wheel bearings.

Not wishing to load on the misery @DuckDogDr but it could also be the flexi lines to the calipers. If these degrade they collapse inside and can act as a one way valve, letting the pressure in but not out again (not quickly enough, anyway). I had this on the rears on my camper, bound up and got hot.

@frazzdaddy Bengal.  he's more dog than cat

He is spectacular. When I said Serval I actualy ment Savannah. Not the same though, he is all domestic?
@frazzdaddy Thanks!  He is domesticated, some what.  Bengals are hybrids between wild Asian Leopard Cats asd domestic Tabby cats.  Takes 4 generationx (F1, F2, F3 and F4) of progressively less wild cats before they are considered domesticated.  That said, he's a handful.
We have a tiger rescue 2 miles from our place and one of my guys volunteers for another. They get Savannah's from time to time (hybrid Serval and tabby) and one day I may try to take one. SWMBO is afraid it might eat the boxers.

My brake job pricing estimate is having a shop do it.  My brakes were on fire and i pulled into a Belle Tire.  Asked if they could fix it right then and there.  They said yes.  I walked to movie theater and they fixed it while I watched a movie.

    @Sea2Ski

You have to get a mill to cut those down for you and they will have to dry for a couple years before you use them.  My buddy needed some help with this himself.  We got these on the trailer one night.  Took some ingenuity, use of fulcrum points, diesel truck, equipment trailer, and a tow strap.  It is a good time.  Are you splitting by hand or are you using a log splitter.  I like having firewood too!  I just can't keep up.

Lace them up tight. It will be an awesome hike. Hydrate like a MF, and roll with some high energy foods. Be mindful of the air at elevation, the smoke can be pretty difficult to deal with in a lower oxygen environment, (3-4K feet + from all the wildfires).

@Sea2Ski, if you can find someone with a portable sawmill, that would be ideal. They usually know best how to get the most out of what you want from a tree like that. It also saves the hassle of loading that mother on a trailer. Then, like @kl8ton said, you will need to stack/sticker the boards and let them properly air dry for a couple years. That’s a nice score!

Thanks @NC_Egghead and @kl8ton doing a bunch of research now.  I think having a guy to come to me might be the best bet as you said.  Then, based on what I have read, I can get the boards stickered and stacked in the attic above my garage a few boards high and strap to the rafters to try and prevent warping.

Now I have to decide what thickness I want the boards cut to. Ish...  this is a process.

Just bought my tickets to Israel in October.  The itinerary isn't terrible but I bit the bullet and paid for the relatively short travel times on an airline I'm familiar with.

It will be.  There’ll be a couple of days of work related stuff for me there, but I’ll also have a few days of being a tourist.  I’m going to get to Jerusalem and Nazareth, at minimum.  I’m looking forward to it.
