Got to our home base we chose for the Crater Lake climbs and hikes. Did Diamond Peak today.
Saw 5 bald eagles at the cabin where we are staying. Together. 2 just flew over us as I type.
Gray Whales were seen in packs today. We stopped along the coast and watched these magnificent creatures in the clear, cold water off the beach shores.
We drove inland about 200 miles, and not one place, ever did we anything that was not beautiful.
Here is the image I tried to capture with my phone. It is the first of the five that flew away together. At the top of one of the Ponderosa Pines that are generously spotted, surrounding our cabin.
Sounds like you’ve got an awesome spot picked out! There’s nothing like seeing those big, beautiful creatures in their habitat.

Having some coffee, watching the Williamson River run bye, silently listening to the eagles screech above. It is 38F here this morning at 4700' above sea level.

@thetrim will probably be bummed out when he discovers Bald Eagles are Sea Eagles, the Navy/Marine version of raptors.

Woke up this morning at first light, watching the Bald Eagles fish in Willianson River, as we pack our gear for an attempt to summit.

Bald Eagles are scavengers.  Bet one hasn't caught a live fish since the 1800's

That's exactly where I last saw one catch a fish.  I was just quoting a Montana rancher buddy of mine.  Apparently cattle ranchers don't care for bald eagles.

Why would they care?  Are they lifting cattle into the air and absconding with them to feed their chicks?

I think they do kill calves.  No sure. I'll ask him when I'm out there in November.

Chickens.  And other birds.  Sometimes other small farm animals.  Seems they just eat the good parts, or just kill em.
