Nice looking rig Caz. My next house will have a dedicated theater room, with atmos/auto. Right now my marantz receiver is in for repair so my amp and speakers are sitting around useless.

In the future I think I am going to run bryston speakers with NAD electronics. Probably looking at 3-5 years so I'm hoping 4k, atmos and auro have come into their own, and nrw HDMI spec is in all receivers at that point.

We're a ways away till rec.2020 is the standard so 4k will be just coming into it's own. By that time...8k will be the next up and coming resolution format.

For now, everything is capped 10.2 Gbps. 4k still looks amazing and there will be 4k blu-ray at the end of the year or early 2016.

I hope OLED is refined soon. Now that Plasma is dead I would like to have something avaible that matches my Panny's black levels. Hate to "upgrade" to lower quality panel to get 4K.

I picked up a Samsung F8500 about 2 months ago to get one last plasma before it's dead. Love it...great picture. My Panasonic 65VT30 is still running strong too.

Your lucky you have two of the best Plasmas ever. My Panny (55ST30) is going strong too. I did have the buzzing issue from the power supply fixed. It is a common issue on my panel. The screws were not locktited or lock washered.

Aside from that it has been great. Not as good as the VT30, but by far the best panel in my price range at the time.

The Panasonic ZT60 is the best ever...wish I had that! The Kuro is legit too.

Yeah...buzzing issues and plasma suck. My vt30 buzzes but it's hard to notice unless you're close.

I am 33, but AV is a huge hobby of mine, even more than egging. I spend probably 2 hours a day reading AV articles, equipment reviews, up and coming tech or just looking at specs in AV equipment that I am interested in.

Yeah...I'm 36 and have been into it for 20 years. At 16, I had 2 Cerwin Vega mains, jbl sub, 3 cheapo speakers for rears and center channel and a pioneer laser disc player. Never knew it would become into this, but this is basically fulfilling half my media room dream. Next house, I'm hoping to have a custom theater built from the ground up.

AVSforum used to take up hours of my reading time. I have taken a hiatus for a bit. Only so much time and $$$ right now.

  • I am a big paradigm and marantz guy. I have at the moment paradigm monitor 9v5, center 3, and adp190v5 for surrounds. Marantz 7005 AVR and a sherbourn PA 7-350 power amp.

I have this in an upstairs living room that is not good for acoustics. I am finishing my basement right now but I built it to sell it not to sink money into my AV room dream, that is for the next house we get which will be a custom build.

I have been swayed from paradigm by the brystons. Those speakers sound amazing and I can't wait to get a pair of model Ts in my house. Direct buy has also started selling NAD which is why I will go the NAD route for the electronics.

Another great set of speakers I have heard lately are the goldenear trighton 1s, despite the salesman having no idea how to set them up and the low end was a little boomy I saw a ton of potential in them.

For my dream system, I'll be going Mcintosh and a Kilpsch THX Ultra II system. Been in love with McIntosh for a long long time.

Who hasn't been in love with McIntosh! Unfortunately I want to many things and they are way out of my budget.

I have a house to build, Gto to restore, fishing boat to buy, outdoor kitchen for the egg, home theater system and hot tub to get. I guess I should put my kid through school (the next one as well) and buy my wife a few things as well. I'm boned

Edit: Sonus Faber would also be my dream speaker manufacturer, but they are definitely not in the cards

The only thing harder on the pocket book than this forum is the AV forum.

I would love a McIntosh setup paired with some Salks, but that is just dreaming. I already get nervous with the kids wrestling and tumbling in my media room.

Yes the kids, lol. I demo'd some Martin Logan's and decided that since I could barely contain myself from poking though the membrane to see what would happen, my kids would never be able to resist the urge.

No joke! I take the screen of my sub when demoing new material to watch the driver. Those big ports are very tempting to put stuff in too.

  • What kind of remote are you using to run all of that? Pronto? Harmony?

Right now, I have a Harmony, but I think I need to look into something else.  Suggestions?

  • Seems like the remote can cost as much or more than the tv these days.  I would love to find something visually simple but still robust.  My wife thinks anything more than an Apple TV remote is too complicated...

I like the URC format for remotes- more customization options. And I think their RF performance is pretty good.

I'm OCD when it comes to cable runs even on the Stoker. But, yours looks phenomenal in that first shot Carl. I wish my AV was up to that speed. We have a decent Onkio receiver with 25 yr old Oak cabinet Polk audio speakers surround and a Velodyne powered sub. And on the lanai a surround sound with a decent projector that we use sporadically. We enjoy it. A lot of seriously nice setups on here.

Try again. Here is my current setup being used how it is mostly used by my son. I need a proper stand for the left speaker, but it is low on my priority list (ie SWMBO's list). She indulges my hobby even if she could care less. She would run an uncalibrated TV and use the TV speakers. She actually hates this room. Prefers the living room for TV watching.

I use an LG LED in this room. Don't want the kids leaving a menu on all day and risking burn-in on my Plasma.

Looks like a room I'd like to chill in. Yeah, my 8500 plays a lot of cartoons. It makes me nervous but whatever.

When my son has sleepovers thats where the boys all stay. They love playing all the games and watching action movies. I like playing the grenade scene from World War Z to unsuspecting people.

If you ever in Illinois stop by and have a beer and demo. No where near your setup but I love it.
