At least you can fit a screen. My last house I built it for a screen but moved before I installed it.

This house doesn't have room. Kids, neighborhood, and school district choices won over my theater desire ;)

Thankfully the wifey is on board and isn't trying to steal my room. Our neighborhood and school district is legit too! Lol

  • are you doing 4 in-ceiling or 2 in-ceiling and 2 front height?  I also have been reading a lot of people saying that using directional in-ceiling speakers such as 30deg speakers aiming at your main seating area.  People have been reporting that when that is done the other seats in the room seem to work better than if they are firing down.  I guess it gives the sound direction maybe and our brain processes it better.

Have you heard of any things like this or other tweaks?  I find the little findings for atmos very interesting.

I have tried to prepare my wife for what is coming, but I don't know if she truly understands lol

4 in-ceiling. The first pair will be set the edge of the screen.... A tad narrow and the tweeter will be angled towards the seating area. The 2nd pair will be at the reclined feet area with the tweeters angled towards the head position. I haven't that in those specific words, but several do recommend to fire the tweeters towards the seating area. The front heights should offer great seperation.

Using Klipsch CDT-5800-C II for my in-ceilings.

Oh they never will get the madness. AV is a disease. I love it though!

If I can ever get my home theater built it will be 17x24 with 9' ceilings. I have a 16x9 120" diagnal fixed screen and Klipsch speakers. I need a projector and to get my Integra DTR -80.2 working again.

What made you go with in-ceiling vs in-wall?  Are you packing any insulation/sound board around them?

Mainly just Atmos and room dimensions. They suggest speakers above you on your ceiling. So your options are in-ceiling or mounting speakers with a bracket. The latter wasnt possible because of the projector and my 8 foot ceiling.

The in-wall speaker could have worked for the front heights, but there wouldn't have been enough room above the screen. In addition, the 35-40 degree elevation required for front heights wouldn't have been achievable above the screen due to the ceiling height. Also, they don't have directional tweeters.

Yep...they will be insulated by the installers.

I still have 4 traditional surrounds mounted to the wall for the rear sound stage. I'm basically running a 11.1 config, but Atmoa calls it 7.1.4.

Yeah - thats all TWC would give me - and that took some negotiation. But yes, there is a port run for the edgerouter.

    Its 36" H x 14" W x 3 1/2' D

To be fair here - I hired an awesome structural wiring guy, I should not be taking credit for anything but a dent in the wallet!

Ahh...I thought you wired it all! Lo . He did a bang up job.

How do you like the EdgeRouter?

The builder gave me a small in wall, but it wasn't big enough to handle all my drops. I wish the structural wiring company they hire would think about what the end user is going to do and make it more practical.

I've done similar wiring in the past, and hated every minute of it :) I felt the money was worth it. He did do a great job and if you're in the Triangle Area of NC, I can recommend him highly (Mogul Media).

As to the EdgeRouter - so far, so good - but its only day two of usage! I also love the ceiling mounted UniFi WAPs - hand-off is seamless between front and back of house and throughput is exceptional.

I hope you got a deal after what I saw on Amazon for $. I am going with just 1080p for now. There is not enough content for 4K to warrant buying it. It out to have an awesome picture.

What UniFi units are you guys using? Those look like a nice solution to my wireless issues I have in my house.

I bought the base model. Wireless N is good enough for my wireless usage. I'm 80% wired in the house. Only tablets and mobile devices use WiFi.

I am only 50% wired in this house. I prefer wired, but am beginning to go explore more wireless options.

I am running 3 wireless access points now (one is a custom firmware hack of a WRT54G I use to spoof a wired network for one of my computers). The setup works but is not as stable as I would like.

Yeah...based off some feedback from Yogi, I will likely go another direction when some of this dust settles.

Now that we have Google Fiber my WIFI is pretty damn fast, but the TV boxes all have Eithernet hook ups built in to them so the only thing wireless is phones and tablets too. I can upload photos in seconds instead of minutes now.
