I hope OLED is refined soon. Now that Plasma is dead I would like to have something avaible that matches my Panny's black levels. Hate to "upgrade" to lower quality panel to get 4K.
I'll be honest. I can see the difference in a 4K set when I get my eyes to about a foot away from the screen, at viewing distances I can't see the difference. The single OLED at my local Bestbuy, I can see the difference from halfway across the store; and that's with a 1080, not a 4K, model. OLED is stunning!!!4K might be an advantage with really large screens, but at that point you're in projector territory anyway. And are there any 4K disk players, or much media, even available yet? If my TV burned out tonight (knock on wood) I'd get that LG OLED tomorrow for $3,000. And an OLED WILL be my next TV.Current system:47" LG LED with local dimmingMonitor Audio RS "Silver" speaker systemOppo 103 (without the built-in Darbee circuit, but I just got the standalone unit, wo0t!)Yamaha RX-V 765 receiver (soon to be replaced with a NAD)Roku IIHarmony One remoteYamaha turntable with Shure V15-something-something cartridge___________"When small men begin to cast big shadows, it means that the sun is about to set."

If you ever in Illinois stop by and have a beer and demo. No where near your setup but I love it.

OLED is the future for sure. I didn't see the point in a 4k tv unless I was getting an 84", but I was looking at a projector anyway. 4k was the right choice for me. The free 4k server is perfect for me until 4k blu-ray drops. Nice system!Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ.... -

@Botch nice setup! I really want an OPPO. I've had various bluray players but none have been exactly what I wanted. Should have just pony'd up the first time.

I'm a closet basshead. The sub was purchased to fill a 1000 sq.ft. theater in my last house. Now it resides in a 300sq.ft media room. Now it really gets the job done. I love it.cazzy said:

If you want a great product and awesome customer service. Call Rythmik. The owners name is Brian. He is a great guy who really cares about his product. His company is Texas based too.

Rythmik also can have custom enclosures made by Salk if you want a high end finish.

The sub2 is sweet, but for the coin I would run 2 of these: (or 4 of my FV15HPs. Then I would have no room mode issues )bigalsworth said:This should get you all the base you need in that 300sqft room

The single FV15HP with room gain has no issues hitting 115dB in my room to around 20hz. I get noticeable output down to 12hz. Above 30hz I get near 130dB. Those are measurements at the listening position.
Truthfully sweeps make me nervous for my plaster. I always check for cracks after spirited sessions.
Sorry for all the AV talk. You guys started my audio bug again. Its like handing an alchoholic in rehab a Scotch.

Definitely for the money there are tons of more great options than that paradigm sub. My friend just bought a power sound audio sub but i'm not sure which model. I also like the cylindrical SVS subs but of course have not heard them in person since they only sell internet direct. Since they used to only make subs and subs alone I imagine that they do a pretty good job, and they get great reviews.Large BGEBBQ Guru DigiQ IIMartensville, Saskatchewan Canada

Does anybody know where I could get a Velodyne SF12 repaired. It'll take a micro solder tech. I have schematics from tech support on zip. I haven't had luck locally.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

If it is just the amp you may be best to pull it and send it back to Velodyne.
There are a few guys who repair older amps but I don't know their names off the top of my head. I can get the info this evening though.Maybe your purpose in life is only to serve as an example for others? - LPL

Parts unavailable with Velodyne. Closest place I've found willing to touch it is in Tampa. Estimating $400-$550 repair + shipping round trip. New they go for $2,900-$3,200.Ozzie_Isaac said:If it is just the amp you may be best to pull it and send it back to Velodyne.

I'll check with a few guys when I get a chance. Truthfully for 550 I would add another 350 or so and get a PSA XV15se. But I don't know your goals.

I'm wondering how you like that Sony 4K media server. My big splurge last summer was a Sony XBR 65 4K which I absolutely love. Of course I went from a 25+ yr old Mitsubishi that finally died. I'm running a ready nas with Plex for my media server now but the Sony option may be even better for the TV.Charlotte, NC

I don't know, I'll let you know in about 2-3 weeks. The reviews are terrible, but it was free so I can't complain. I do like that it will give me the ability to stream 4K Netflix and Amazon Prime content, so that is a big bonus. It is limited to Sony movie content, so that kinda sucks, but it's really my only option for 4K content at the moment.NC_Egghead said:I'm wondering how you like that Sony 4K media server. Y'all have some pretty impressive gear. I'll know where to go if I have any questions. I haven't kept up with the times until the recent 4K purchase but I still have a pair of Dahlquist DQ-10's stored away in their original boxes from my college days. I think I still have the Phase Linear amp I used to drive them with. 360 watts/channel was a lot of power in the late 70's - early 80's.Charlotte, NC

Have you fellas heard of Emotiva? I need to get a two channel amp so I'm leaning towards them. Thoughts?Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ....

Yes, the sherbourn amp I have was owned by the parent company and it is a great amp. Sherbourn has now been dissolved and brought under the fold of emotiva. I would not hesitate to pick up one of their amps, they have been very well received and present great value. Having said that they are no bryston, parasound, boulder and such, but great for the pricecazzy said:Have you fellas heard of Emotiva? I need to get a two channel amp so I'm leaning towards them. On my HT forum, Emotiva was generally thought to have poor reliability. fwiw...___________

The tough thing about forums especially audio video forums is that they are highly pretentious and very sceptical of anything that costs under $10000. They are not the best you can get, but they are damn good for the price. It would be nice if they had a 10 year warranty though, but not many do I guess.
Audioaficionado.com is a great forum, with high end equipment but I have found the people on there very helpful and more or less open-minded, about as open as I have ever seen for self proclaimed audiophilesLarge BGEBBQ Guru DigiQ IIMartensville, Saskatchewan Canada -
Yeah, seeing how grossly over budget I am, I felt the Emotiva UPA-200 was fairly priced at $299. 125w at 8ohms is more than enough for my set up. I'm actually going to use the Emotiva to power my mains and will use the AVR to power the other 9 channels.
I now will be running 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos or 11.1 DTS Neo:X.
The room is going to be pretty cray cray. I do think I need some acoustic panels to cut the echo down the road. We will see.Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ....
