Rare Breed first, then the EC

I’m a big Turkey fan but I’m also a huge EC fan. You’ve got yourself into a real tough spot there. Might take a few hours or more to extract yourself. 🥃Gamecockeggman said:Hmmm decisions decisions…. What say you?

You are likely correct but from golfing yesterday to 20* tonight is wicked enough for this guy.pgprescott said:
I’m pretty sure you don’t know what a wicked front really feels like down there. 😁TechsasJim said:Warming me up from the inside while this wicked front blows through.Reminds me of Basil Hayden with a touch more heat.@Gamecockeggman
tough decisions, I’d go the WT route … for openers.LBGE, 28” BS, Weber Kettle, HCI 7.8 SE Texas -

The turkey products are great: Russell’s reserve, Kentucky Spirit, Rare breed. They are top notch. Enjoy!Gamecockeggman said:

@pgprescott- you have access to and spend major $$ for those, at least around here.
Again, within 60 miles of the Bardstown Bourbon Company distillery if you can find it, their Fusion series (now at 8) is the best you can get. But their Fusion offerings are quite good and when you can find 'em here they are around $55-60/750.
No joy being so close by proximity and so far by availability.

Agreed Cap. I passed on a $65 Fusion 8 today (for some stupid reason). I had series 7 last year and it was darn darn good.lousubcap said:@pgprescott- you have access to and spend major $$ for those, at least around here.

The fusions are a good value in my opinion. I have several of them as I am a fan of finished whiskey. The Discovery series and Laubade are definitely spendy. They are great whiskey but definitely a treat VS a regular purchase. I can usually get them at a Binneys for retail if I take the time to go get them. 🥃

My local one has a couple of the goose island bottles but I just can’t drop $170 on a bottle.pgprescott said:The fusions are a good value in my opinion. I passed on the goose island one. That just doesn’t sound like my sorta thing. I did buy a back up of the Disco and the Calumet 16 as I found them to be very exceptional. I’d just spend it at a nice restaurant or something else. I’m fairly selective about the ones I’ll drop over a hundo on. I like to research reviews done by people with similar taste tendencies as I enjoy. Some of the very expensive stuff is not good at all. I’ve been lucky enough to avoid those by referring to reviews by know entities. 🤷🏼♂️🥃saluki2007 said:

Yes. That’s about half price and it’s very very good. The 16 is slightly better IMO but they are both exceptional. No brainer.TechsasJim said: -
If I could get the 14,15 or 16 for under $100 I would jump all over it.TechsasJim said:Large and Small BGECentral, IL -
Ok so this wasn’t quite what I thoughtt (Guess I looked at it too fast) It’s a blend of 15 & 8. For $55 I grabbed it anyway.
LBGE, 28” BS, Weber Kettle, HCI 7.8 SE Texas -
Huh. Never seen that one. Let us know. I see it’s substantially proofed down. I’ve never had the 8 but I’ve heard it’s not in the same league. Hopefully, the excellence of the 15 Carries the day. Price is right. 🥃TechsasJim said:Ok so this wasn’t quite what I thoughtt (Guess I looked at it too fast) It’s a blend of 15 & 8. For $55 I grabbed it anyway.

I had the old bottling of that one. It wasn’t bad but the 14,15 and 16 are much better.TechsasJim said:Ok so this wasn’t quite what I thoughtt (Guess I looked at it too fast) It’s a blend of 15 & 8. For $55 I grabbed it anyway.

yep not sure what to think but I’ll try it out later today. Lord knows I’ve wasted more than $55 before.
LBGE, 28” BS, Weber Kettle, HCI 7.8 SE Texas -
Exactly! At that price it’s not a big deal either way. If it’s not your favorite, make some old fashioned or Manhattan’s with it. All good. I’m hoping it’s pretty good. Probably not on the level with the 15 alone but it’s 1/2 -1/3 the price. Enjoy!TechsasJim said:@pgprescott

Yep. I got suckered once into buying a $75 bottle of AD Laws. The guy swore up and down it was identical to PVW.Man did that sales guy swindle me or he had the worst palette on Earth.LBGE, 28” BS, Weber Kettle, HCI 7.8 SE Texas

@lousubcap
It’s good, not great. Very smooth, good flavor and zero bite (likely to the proof). For $55 I wouldn’t buy it again (for me), however I think it would be a great bourbon for those you want to introduce bourbon to.On the flip side, it could be a session bourbon if you’re into that.As an aside, I am likely the worst when it comes to describing any food/drink. I would never make it as a sommelier. HahahaLBGE, 28” BS, Weber Kettle, HCI 7.8 SE Texas -
Some more light tasting while waiting to start dinner. 🥃
