Hasn't LV gone to recycling wastewater already? I remember that Santa Barbara had ceased all new construction because the local well water was being drained faster than it could be replenished, and that was 15 years ago or so. Also saw recently that one of the two main reservoirs in the SW (Glen Canyon, or Hoover?) is only 26% full now and hydroelectric power to a big portion of the SW United States may stop. That's very scary, to me.

5am yellow jacket nest exterminating that’s right outside my shed. All this property and the little bastards always seem to pick the most inconvenient place. Flooded them with Talstar P. I don’t want to use a dust with the beehives nearby.

A neighbour’s Chinese mother just brought over a sort of Chinese doughnut, piping hot. They are filled with a sweet sauce that seems like it may be brown sugar-based. Delicious.

I have been watching some black hornet looking things building a nest in my camper fridge vent. I have to get that taken care of soon. Hoping that when I move it 15 miles they fly away and don't come back. It will be a night time inspeciton/operation.

It’s been quite the day.

Bearing seized on a 1000# capacity mixer (drive side of course). When it seized it didn’t tell the motor. As you can see a 35/70hp motor doesn’t care. Broke the shaft. We’re in the process of attempting to weld it back up and turn it down until the replacement arrives in 2-4 weeks. Triple sprocket, triple chain, seized bearing pieces, seals and rope packing all out. For reference it’s an 8” shaft turned down to 4.5” and keyed to fit all of the gadgetry. 8.25’ long.

@fishlessman probably has one laying around. Seriously that sucks man and sounds very expensive

It’s not gonna be a cheap fix. The weld job may not even sustain until the replacement comes in. We know that going in, but we had to do something. I’ve split my one shift into 2 until we can get this mixer back operational. Staggered them 8 hours apart to share the other mixer. Of course, none of them are happy. It’s great being a business owner lol

Have welded those up and turned them down and they were fine. The problem is if it got bent further back. Have one that’s 27 feet long in the shop right now. 2 to 4 weeks and new is a better option imho

No bends or further cracking than what is seen in the pic. Looks like it just twisted the end off. New
one is already on order. Our local machinist came over and measured everything before he ordered. My guy is welding up the broken one, the machinist will be there in the morning to work his magic getting it back into round

As a follow up to my Monday post:

mixer is back operational. One of my guys welded on the shaft for 7+ hours. On site machinist had very little work to do to get the shaft back true. Further inspection revealed no bowing or other cracks. New rope packing, seals and bearing. Mixer reassembled and running. Replacement being made. We will change out upon its arrival.

Now to play catch up on the time we lost

Lots and lots of things lol. We are like an episode of how it’s made. Semi-automated high speed production and packaging.

My step daughter had a mixed breed dog that passed away and she replaced it with a German Shepherd mix. Father was 100% German Shepherd. I was against it. To allow her to career change and work from home uninterrupted I watched and trained the dog every weekday. I walk her on Saturday and Sunday mornings to maintain a routine.Sasha is now 5 and the most obedient and loyal dog there is. Very early socialization, consistent training and consistent routines was the key. A rough three years from the start but just before her third birthday a switch seemed to go off and the commands all started making sense to her. My attitude about it changed and I had a ton of fun shaping her behavior.
