Sounds like you can live cohesively with them @Botch. I worked for a grading company and one of the guys had a full blow hornets nest in the cab of his pan. Told us to leave it alone they are his friends.

Sprinkle a little sevin dust on comb at night that should take care of it. I would be afraid of lingering smell of raid, also the possibility of damaging your paint.

  • The sky here looks like @poster's second photo. Just heard in the news (unverified?) that as of this morning Toronto has the worst air index quality in the world.
Just heard the same from another Torontonian this morning.

Ya we seen that up here too. I can't imagine they have it worse 1000's of kms away, but maybe they got some other crap in their air too. We literally have a layer of ash on surfaces here now.

Wasp spray works well. Shoots a stream for far enough that you can stay clear of them. Had some the other day in my swamp cooler, sprayed them but then had to wait a couple days for the smell to dissipate before using the unit.

Trying to figure out what to do.
The paper wasps decided to build a flea bomb might worknest between the driver's side door and the frame on my Taco.  Saw a video on mixing 2 tsp boric acid in apple juice in a pail, throwing in a couple sticks so the wasps could take a drink, then they bring the solution back to the queen and all their stomachs burn out.  That didn't work.
Last night I quickly opened that door, hoping to see an empty nest, instead I saw about ten of them on it; slammed the door and made a beeline (heh, I slay myself) to the house.  This morning I got up early and jumped into the passenger seat of my Taco, didn't get stung, but then tried to maneuver my old 6'5" frame and Size 13 clodhoppers over the center island/gearshift and into the driver's seat; took about 6 minutes and I pulled something and bruised my hip but eventually got there.
I drove up to north Ogden and parked to open the door and knock the nest down, but all the wasps were still there!  (in past summers they normally built their nest in my rear-view mirrors, and they all tended to leave once I was driving; don't know why it was different this time).  I slammed the door again, fortunately none got into the cab.
Drove back home and parked on the street, maybe 40' away and 90º turned from normal parking, hoping that would throw off their excellent "internal GPS".  Did a quick exit and ran to the house, didn't get stung.

But now what?  The only thing I can think to do is wait until early tomorrow morning again, don my motorcycle gear for protection, then just open that door and blast them directly with Raid, and have the neighbors laughing once again... sigh.  🐝

    .
Flea bomb might work but I would go straight for the raid

Was clearing some climbing vines off the north side of my house a few years back, from too high on an inadequate ladder, and revealed an active yellowjacket nest about the size of a football.  I did a quick retreat and phoned my neighbor to the north to warn them about “possible hazards”.
I did have a can of the streaming wasp spray, and early the next morning donned the same M/C gear and aimed right for the bottom exit; the stream blew half of it off so I aimed to the bottom-third point of the nest, and kept the stream going.  A few ‘jackets flew out, but not very straight, and I retreated again.  Climbed the ladder the next morning and covered the nest with a plastic pail, severed it from the eaves with my pizza peel, and got rid of it.

Tonight I stood on the bumper of my truck and bounced a couple times, but no wasps emerged; I’ve decided to go the Raid route tomorrow as soon as I wake up.  If I don’t post here tomorrow I was either successful, or they killed me.

EDIT:  Oh, and I also bought a bottle of Orange pop, to dump into the bucket of apple juice/boric acid; I am surprised that I saw no wasps taking a sip of sweetened apple juice for a week, they sure seem anxious to do so during any picnic I’ve ever been to.

The bottom of my pool was covered with ash particles over the last few days.  I purchased a fine particle filter for the cleaner robot to hopefully get rid of most of it.  The neighbours tried to “shake it” with a brush hoping that their filter would clear it, but it just made their water cloudy.  Hopefully the fine particles filter will do the trick, I’ll know tomorrow morning.

He’s not much of a beer guy. But the beer (and glass)is from Able Baker. My favorite local Brewery. The back story to the name is neat. Maybe don’t fact check it and make me sad.

Is that Fortress America Las Vegas style?  Some power dense housing right there.

Las Vegas is certainly high density living. We live on the outskirts, next to the mountains. When we bought this house and a new build, we were told that nobody could build anymore to the west of our neighborhood due to public land. Unfortunately that changed and they are beginning to build more housing. Not sure where our future water is coming from.

A friend had the same experience in our city and was livid. The risk of buying property next to vacant land.
