Stuck on the tarmac.  Not bad so far, only been about an hour.

Flight up to DC for a couple days.  I am approaching the highest status on Delta, an outcome I find equal parts exciting and mortifying.

As a 3 million miler,  I can relate. It’s a status that definitely comes with a cost. Having been retired now for 2 years and no longer flying weekly, I’ve found, and always suspected, the loyalty runs only 1 way.

The best thing that happened to me was losing all airline and hotel status with a new job. The status program is basically a misery index.

Please say more about this.  I find that being A List Preferred on Southwest and having a companion pass is a good thing.
    - Exit row seats at time of booking on every flight (I'm 6'6")
    - My wife flies free (except for $5.60 for tax) on every flight she wants to come on.
    - When she flies without me I have enough points to pay for her flight such that we haven't paid money for a Southwest flight for years.  I'm even flying my kids to Boston on points later this year.

It usually represents a significant investment of your time spent on flying and traveling instead of with friends and family.

    That's fair.

When I travel for work, it's usually for meetings a good places - places I would likely not choose to visit on my own dime.  That's why my wife comes with me for many of them.  So, probably 70% of my work travel is fairly enjoyable and the friends I've made doing it are in many ways very similar to the friends I've made here.  My situation is pretty rare.

Backyard got finished today. Now to get the furniture the wife ordered throughout the week and get that put together. I did get a cart that will hold my large and 36” Blackstone. So that will be nice.

Bingo. Elevated travel status just means that you are away from your family.

Now you need a collapsible net to crush golfballs into on one side of the turf. Perfect lie every time

Today, though I think you’re not in the suspected trajectory of the worst of it. Depends which resource you consult.

The sky here looks like @poster's second photo. Just heard in the news (unverified?) that as of this morning Toronto has the worst air index quality in the world.

Trying to figure out what to do.
The paper wasps decided to build a nest between the driver's side door and the frame on my Taco.  Saw a video on mixing 2 tsp boric acid in apple juice in a pail, throwing in a couple sticks so the wasps could take a drink, then they bring the solution back to the queen and all their stomachs burn out.  That didn't work.
Last night I quickly opened that door, hoping to see an empty nest, instead I saw about ten of them on it; slammed the door and made a beeline (heh, I slay myself) to the house.  This morning I got up early and jumped into the passenger seat of my Taco, didn't get stung, but then tried to maneuver my old 6'5" frame and Size 13 clodhoppers over the center island/gearshift and into the driver's seat; took about 6 minutes and I pulled something and bruised my hip but eventually got there.
I drove up to north Ogden and parked to open the door and knock the nest down, but all the wasps were still there!  (in past summers they normally built their nest in my rear-view mirrors, and they all tended to leave once I was driving; don't know why it was different this time).  I slammed the door again, fortunately none got into the cab.
Drove back home and parked on the street, maybe 40' away and 90º turned from normal parking, hoping that would throw off their excellent "internal GPS".  Did a quick exit and ran to the house, didn't get stung.

But now what?  The only thing I can think to do is wait until early tomorrow morning again, don my motorcycle gear for protection, then just open that door and blast them directly with Raid, and have the neighbors laughing once again... sigh.  🐝

Counting to ten only makes it Premeditated.
