Sorry to hear. You’ve had a rough go of it as of late.Gulfcoastguy said:Well I just heard that my Dads younger brother died last night. A few months after his wife did. I guess I will be figuring out how to get my Dad who is on oxygen to at least the wake. -
To be clear the wife mentioned was my aunt. At the moment I can’t practically see how to get him to the funeral.
-
Yes he found out that he was ill while visiting my Dad at the ER. He ended up a patient. There’s some rough version of pneumonia going around. It hits the elderly hard and is usually connected to A Fib. Long Covid? Anyhow get the newer Pneumonia vaccine when you can, I plan to.zaphod said:sh!t, sorry for the loss of your uncle. -
@Gulfcoastguy I’m sorry for your loss and also the logistics of dealing with elderly family, failing health, and travel. This is tough in the best of times and you have had your share lately.
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.
-
Yes. @Gulfcoastguy, my thoughts are with you in these challenging times. Sorry that you're going through this.

@Gulfcoastguy - As above my condolences to all impacted by this challenging run. My appreciation for all of the recent comments. The funeral is Thursday and it’s a bit to far in distance to drive my parents, both using walkers. I arranged for an all white flower arrangement with Easter lilies for he has risen.

We’re back back back, and very much in the home straight. Seven games left for Arsenal to hold on at the top, despite being 9 points clear they have tumbled out of two cup competitions since the last PL fixtures to re-ignite the flames of previous failures. At the foot, Wolves had been in great (relatively) form but are all but sunk although finishing second last now feels a possibility, so that’s good right? West Ham, Spurs and Forest are contending the final relegation spot and they all have equal claim.
Friday
West Ham vs Wolves, to get things started a game that ought to be a home win and in turn elevation above the dotted line for the Hammers, and moreover sending Spurs below it. An unlikely away win could see Wolves off the foot if it’s by 2 clear goals, dreamland indeed. 1-1 and desperation for the Hammers.
Saturday
Arsenal vs Bournemouth, five straight draws for the Cherries is notable for statisticians but not great for league position. Perhaps it speaks of obduracy and emits a special aura that blunts opposition attackers? Either way, the Gunners really need to win this because Man City have game in hand over them, and the two face each other soon so any defeat combined with positive results for City brings the title race down to a face off over the last couple of matches. However, win this and if City lose, it’s suddenly very different. 2-0
Brentford vs Everton, 7th host 8th and who would ave thought it? The Toffees have risen without trace and the Bees have just done what they do. Almost identical form over the season so far but with the dangled carrot of Euro qualification, one of these two needs to step up. 1-0
Burnley vs Brighton, the filthies are safe and sat in 10th - no doubt flicking through travel brochures for Europe ahead of the fixtures they feel entitled to. Sadly the Clarets are an unreliable proxy of doom and will only serve to propel the bin-dippers self-satisfaction. 0-2
Liverpool vs Fulham, the Reds are in a bit of a pickle with discontent about performances, a lacklustre defence of the title and newly announced ticket price hikes. The last point needs explanation, the tradition is that fan bases are built on season-ticket holders but their cost per match ratio offers a much, much lower potential yield than tickets sold for individual matches, ideally bundled with ‘a tour of the club car park, burger and free paper hat’. The difference can be ten fold. And the backdrop of Liverpool drawing a £700m annual revenue means life long fans are unamused by being marginalised. All 3 results on the table. 1-2 feels the most fun, though.
Sunday
Palace vs Newcastle, 3 weeks without a competitive match and then we win last night against Fiorentina - huzzah, all is good in the world, but no team plays well after a recent Euro fixture. And we welcome Toon who have resolutely proved that buying success is a thing of the past. A home win could see us superseded them in to 12th place, defeat means the safety barrier of 42 points remains distant. More than likely a bore draw. 1-1
Forest vs Villa, the hosts are in dire need of points and had found some form before the break. Both teams played last night in Europe but the Villans more convincingly and they do sit 4th in the league. Painful 0-1, and Forest remain my bet for the third relegation spot.
Sunderland vs Spurs, so Super-Spursy Spurs have pulled through trigger on yet another manager and in times of distress and anxiety have pulled a Spurs master-stroke by hiring a highly combustible and divisive new manager. What could possibly go wrong? The Maccems will smell blood and things could be much worse for Spurs by Sunday evening. 2-0
Chelsea vs Man City, it would be of great assistance e to everyone if the Chels’ could decided if they are a decent team or not. Sometime great and sometime woeful, while specialising in red cards this season. City could just turn up, smash three and go home without breaking sweat or slip up. Perhaps not that easy, so 1-2.
Monday
Man United vs Leeds, not the fixture the visitors would choose while searching for points to shore up their PL status. No reason for Utd’s resurgence to stop here, 2-0 and Leeds could be teetering on the dotted line, depending upon how other results go.
OK, I need to dash off for a spontaneous press conference about soemthing no-one was thinking about. Streisand Effect anyone?

Great insights as always. With that said, if I were to quibble with one of your magically accurate predictions, I think I would suggest that players tend to shift into another (higher) gear when they get a new gaffer so I'm think Tottenham will probably find a way to victory. After it's done, they won't know how they did it - they'll just do it.CPFC1905 said:We’re back back back, and very much in the home straight. Watching the Artemis II reentry broadcast coverage!
We did this over fifty years ago with less computer technology than is in your cell phone today.
And yet we had to effectively "start all over again" with the SLS after the Saturn Five proved its worth.
I realize the long-term goal is permanent vs a visit but...Just an opinion and we all know what those are worth.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
Same here. I was nine when I was glued to my folks' B&W tv for the Apollo launch, landing, "one small step", and final splashdown. That, along with my Dad's subscription to Aviation Week & Space Technology (with glossy magazine color photos about a month later) led me to a tech career that I'm so grateful for. Hopefully this new program inspires enough current 9-yr-olds to do the same, and change things back towards the Better.lousubcap said:Watching the Artemis II reentry broadcast coverage!"There is a crack, a crack in everything.
