I'm trying to get rid of a swarm of saber toothed crotch crickets. They got me last year and I was peeing like a shower head, so for a week, I had to wear a funnel on my tallywacker.  Still, it could be worse. In 2014 I got a horrible case of California Hot Tub Rectal Gonorrhea. Talk about itchy... I couldn't chew my fingernails for almost two whole weeks!

  • Watching the Masters with the wife while we wait for dinner guests.  Cooking for my research group tonight - celebrating two students who will receive their PhDs this spring.  On the menu: beef tenderloin, garlic rosemary mashed potatoes, asian three bean salad, and a Basque cheesecake.
Your students are lucky to be treated to such an event.

Pics if you have the time and inclination (maybe the task can be assigned your students).

My recent favorite is Suntory HIBIKI, so-called 'Japanese Harmony'.      Very special for a blended and I'm looking forward, maybe late this summer to it's stablemate, Yamazaki, a single malt.
I just finished off my Chivis Regal blended scotch and it really hit the spot.   Next up I see a few Glenmorangie and another 16 yr Lagavulin.....

Just gifted that Hibiki to my father-in-law. He served it at our Easter gathering last weekend and everyone really enjoyed it.

This had to be the most snow we have had in years. Snowmobiled into the camp up north this weekend and after shoveling everything out Friday went out fishing Saurday as walleye closes here next week. Did very well, got our limits in an hour. Hopefully we are able to drive in soon, but its looking like June at this rate.

Pouring myself a drink.  Went from 3 homes to live in, to none.

Two of them exchanged for retirement account in the divorce last week (finally, thank goodness).  Unfortunately home I was buying fell through today and my current rental I need to be out of first of May. 🤣🤦🏼

Luckily, ex-wife is keeping almost all personal items from our life so I don’t need to worry about actually having stuff to move.

Lesson to those getting divorced, never believe “we will sort out the personal items during the dissolution negotiations”. Take your **** day one and don’t look back.

Divorces suck. I’ve seen too many friends go through them and it’s hardly ever amicable.

Let’s not re-open the whole ’squeaky bum time’ debate,  but it’s now. There was a time when a perfunctory water-treading 15 games until the inevitable distribution of trinkets took place in May, but not anymore my friends.  Jeopardy is palpable.  Arsenal believed they had four in the bag, now there’s maybe two and equally likely none.  For Man City, read ‘we need a bigger boat’ and have that music in mind.   Spurs - well, even by their standards it’s an epic season.

    Saturday

Brentford vs Fulham, the west London derby of little repute.  Four draws not the bounce for the Bees but a win here brings Europe within grasp.  1-0

Leeds vs Wolves, suddenly Dirty Leeds have gone from relegation fodder to relegation arbitrator as they face four teams below them in the league in coming weeks.  This will be a home win and more or less make them safe, but looming matches against Spurs and West Ham more influential. 3-1

Newcastle vs Bournemouth, the mighty Eagles did a number on the Toon last week and 14th place is not a good look at all for the Saudi backed top-tier hopefuls. Beating the Cherries is not a foregone conclusion, given their six game unbeaten run.  1-1

Spurs vs Brighton, how does this happen?  Don’t answer that, the hidden dark forces of the 4th estate make it so.  Abject and dissolute Spurs host the Filthy Seagulls who will, by decree, wine easily and the media will be thrilled at the prospect of winning all European football next year. 0-2

Chelsea vs Man United, a first defeat for the new Utd boss last week - but not a drama considering where they were when he took over.  The Chels’ have gone for being a bit odd to being a bit rubbish.  A good game in prospect through - because of all of that, 1-2

    Sunday

Villa vs Sunderland, the Villa’s have turned good again after a weird period of rudderless-ness.  The Maccems are just playing for fun now as the season is officially declared successful already. 1-0

Everton vs Liverpool, the Scouse derby - intense but not hostile. All 3 results on the table and home advantage takes it for me, and the Reds being a bit symbolic right now. 1-0

Forest vs Burnley, an away win does not really help the Clarets but it keeps Forest in the more and that’s all I care about.  That said, this screams 0-0 unless a lucky deflection, possibly off of a passing bird or caused by a gust of wind - generates a goal.  0-0

Man City vs Arsenal, ooooh, it’s that game. Here’s the facts, City are six points adrift and have a game in hand.  Win this along with that game in hand and it’s level pegging - very probably on goal difference too. If ever there was a ‘show us your minerals’ moment for the Gunners it’s now.  1-0.

    Monday

Palace vs West Ham, the mighty Eagles have secured a semi-final berth in Europe last night and generally play badly in the game after.  The Hammers are not yet safe but a wine here could be most of the points they need.  Will be tight, possibly painful to watch. Hope for a nil nil, but 0-1 it is.

Got to dash, I think it's my turn to be the entire Royal Navy the weekend.

Thanks for that.  I had to look up "squeaky bum time" (I actually read it as - and googled - squeaky "BURN" time... but google was smarter than me (no surprise).  Also had to learn about the dark forces of the 4th estate.  Brilliant as always.

If your predictions hold true, Man U will be sitting pretty relative to the Champions League cut line - so I suspect the Man U/Chelsea/Liverpool situation will not work out the way I hope - and that you predict.  We're starting to get into the period where Michael Carrick is no longer new and therefore not as effective as a motivator...

It came down to that, toss in a heaping spoonful of I am happy and moved on and she is stuck with herself. Unfortunately, we both still live in the same state, same town even. Our sphere is completely different though and all of our shared IRL friends are still my friends. I switched industries so won't cross her path much.

Divorces suck. I’ve seen too many friends go through them and it’s hardly ever amicable.

In the beginning she kept saying she wanted amicable and we didn't need lawyers. Her amicable was I leave, she keeps everything, and I keep managing the business for a salary while she continues to live off the profits and travel non-stop.  She offered me half my 401K as severance - anything other than that was me not being amicable.

The law in Arizona is community property, but she was advised by her "powerful rich divorced friends" from other states. The lawyers cost ~$40K but were worth every single damn penny. I see why my ex-wife wanted an online filing service and no lawyers. My ROI was over 1,000%.

Good news far far outshines the bad. The bad is logistics, the good is I get to be free and live the life I choose.  That my friend is priceless.

FIFA are best understood as an entity from a parallel universe.  It perpetuates on self-aggrandisement in order to leech money from all sources.
That and to facilitate vain-glorious awards.  It does that too.

Lost out on third house.  Market is super weird.  Good homes in good condition go within 12hrs for over ask, everything else sits.

Home on market for 8hrs. Bid $10k over ask, offered $10k appraisal waiver, quick close, no repairs under $2k and not good enough.  **** me.

The market is nuts up here too. Properties going for 5-10% above their already outrageous listing price. 30 day closing are rare. A lot of cash on hand, close in 14 day trends.

    Odd times for sure

My folks put their place on the market a few years ago, in the spring of 2023.  They were surprised by what the agent told them to list it for, as it was more than twice what they paid for the place back in 2010.  Then they got an offer that was 20% over ask, all cash.  It was by far the best of four offers they'd received - all of which came the same day it went on the market.  The lowest was at asking price.

I haven't seen any indications that things have cooled off much in the past couple of years.  Just crazy.

the market is more than crazy. recently saw a 200k house go just under a mil because he added  a detached bedroom (ie. put a bed out back in an old shed).  he did paint the shed to match the house and he did hang curtains
