Have you ever seen the Conan O’Brien segments where he joins Tinder, and Grinder, respectively? Quite funny.

Throbbing, prickly engineering problem this Friday eve.
I bought some new reading glasses for the dinner table a couple weeks ago, and they always had a black smudge across the lens about 2/3rds down; took them off to see what it was but then I couldn't see anything (getting old sucks).  I finally went to another room and picked up those reading glasses, and saw that my new ones had a clear plastic oval on them, printed with "Remove before Use".
No problem.  I could see the edge of the oval and picked at it with my fingernail, no luck at dislodging it.  Grabbed my metal letter opener and carefully tried to peel it off, no luck.  Grabbed a sharp needle to again peel it off, no luck and now there's scratches across that plastic oval, and possibly my new reading glasses.
Got the idea to boil some water in a pot, immerse the glasses, and see if the heat would dislodge the plastic ovals.  But, the frames are metal and would quickly expand, and possibly release the plastic lenses before anything happened to the stickers.

Damn, this pisses me off.  (I bought a three-pak of these glasses for spares, so they'll all have the same issue)  First-world, wild Friday Night retiree issues.  Any ideas, guys?

@botch Try hair dryer with a small nozzle attachment, use a cardboard with hole-in-the-middle to protect the frame.

    Thanks guys.
@zaphod, my neighbors draw the drapes and kill the lights if I walk up their driveway.
@Canugghead, I don't have a hair dryer (and my battery BGE "blower" died a couple years ago),
@Buckwoody Egger, never heard of them!  Will be looking around tomorrow.

  • Any chance Goo Gone might help dissolve the adhesive? As others have said, I’d be using plastic implements to try to scrape it off. Good luck!

Botch the ones i have are orange.

home depot has some (anvil brand) that are grey. the pool of great reviews is counter weighted with 1 star reviews by people surprised the grey ones weren’t metal.

seeing people make that mistake and seek revenge with a bad review is as “recent american” as it gets.

If you have a heat gun, you can use lowest heat setting and increase the distance.

Another idea...chill the underside of the lens with ice cubes, then pour hot water over the sticker with a Gestura 😂 By the time the water reaches the frame it would've lost its energy.

+1 for the Gestura. The sheer awesomeness may intimidate the sticker right off the lens.

Ran water in the sink until hot (125º) and that didn't do anything.  Looks like I'll have to pick up some plastic razors.
This kinda makes me mad, it's us old folks with bad eyesight who have to buy reading glasses, and this weirdo company makes them pointlessly difficult to use.

botch - an AI response offered up tape as a solution. so maybe if you grab a long strip of scotch tape or packing tape. then attach the end of the strip near one edge of the shipping film and pulled parallel to the lens towards the opposite edge, the adhesion tug of war would lift it off.

have not researched the temperature in shipping containers and the melting point of lens shipping film— at which point they would fused all the way to the landfill. boredom can have limits!!

Good thinking. Then the sticker just won’t bother him.

Scotch tape didn't do it, but the packing tape did.  Thank you, Sir!   :)

@Botch this is as bad as a razor knife trapped in plastic you need a razor knife to liberate. Also… I hate stickers on stuff.

First week of retirement in the books. Might have to curtail the cocktails as every evening has felt like a Friday 🥃😂 Nah!!!
While reading this Jimmy Buffet happens to be playing Margarita Ville on the radio. That means tequila is the beverage of choice tonight.
