That is true. But my point is it’s not good to change rules to fit your agenda.  The filibuster serves a good purpose. It should remain.

With a little quick Googling, the first US filibuster was used September 22, 1789. With that said, it’s been around long enough to be left alone. In my humble opinion of course.
I have never liked for anyone to try and change the rules for their own benefit or personal gain. Be it a sports league, a group of people, a church etc etc. As much as I admire Trump, I hope he don’t mess with it. He won the White House, has control of the Senate and probably the House. That’s good enough. Don’t start changing rules.

Google some more. The filibuster itself is just endless debate.   In order to prevent a vote from occurring, one had to remain on the floor of the chamber and continue to speak against it.  Sometime in the 1970's this changed.  The 70's saw the introduction of the “silent filibuster,” which meant a group of senators could prevent a vote with a filibuster indefinitely without actually speaking.

The real problem is not so much the filibuster but the threshold number of votes needed to end it, which is called cloture.  This change wasn't introduced until 1917.   At the moment, this is 60 votes.  What this means in practice is that many bills that have majority support in the Senate simply never come up for a vote.

That isn't terribly democratic, is it?

The fact of the matter is, the rules have been changed several times.  That's why these days the filibuster isn't invoked for certain things, like Presidential appointments or reconciliation bills.  These are all changes that have come about over the past half century or so.

Don't get me wrong, I hope the GOP won't change it either!  But Trump will push them to for sure.  I guarantee it.

    Admiring Trump, smdh.

I can see being ideologically opposed to one candidate or party or another. Admiring just begs the question, what is it you admire about the man?

The Senate also has the curious rule of Unanimous Consent.  I get he is forgettable but, think back to Sen. Tommy Tuberville for a refresher on it.

So it seems you are basically telling us it doesn’t matter what party is in place and their policies have little effect on what we are seeing.

Trump was more business friendly. You simply can’t tax the country into prosperity. Then we have the massive influx of illegal immigrates. We know why they wanted it but you can’t blame Americans for wanting an immigration system that’s fair to everyone else. Even the Latinos here voted in
    higher numbers because of this.

And you will not admit it but many could see how Trump was constantly being attacked by his political opponents with countless lawsuits and made up garbage. When they see how unjustly he was treated they could not stand by and see such an abuse of power.

The democrats are trying to point fingers and analyze why they lost but they don’t want to change how they treat Americans. Their power and control is all they want.

I remember being mocked by you resident libs here about how bad people had it and so many were hurting in this economy. Yet even now you won’t take any ownership of why.
I’m pretty sure you’re the guy who’s been telling us a recession is imminent for (checks notes) … more than a year now?  How’s that working out for you?

You weren’t mocked for saying people were hurting.  You were mocked for making predictions based on solely what you’re seeing in your own (dying) industry.

Help me out here; could you name just two lawsuits based on "made-up garbage"?

Where do I even start? I guess first I will quote an old but true saying; “The eyes are useless when the mind is blind”. That saying describes the entire left and people that just hate Trump for whatever reason.
So why do I admire him? To see his many attributes you don’t need a second glance if your mind is not blind. But to point out a few and in no particular order.
    1. His honesty.
    2. His resilience. He never gives up no matter the odds against him. Just look what they have put him through the last 8 years.
    3. He is very pro American.
    4. He is very pro second amendment.
    5. He is strict on immigration.
    6. He puts America first.
    7. He don’t bow down the oddballs and weirdos.
    8. His integrity. Something most people lack now unfortunately.
    9. He tells it like it is even if the little snowflakes start to melt.
    10. He is for the oil industry.
    11. He is an American. A real American.
    12. He is against the “green” crap.
I could sit here and keep on for days. But I hit a few of the highlights. I will end it with his most important attribute. He is a good, God fearing Christian man. God bless Donald Trump and God bless the USA 🙏

I’m surprised you didn’t mention his loyalty, as evidenced by his three marriages and multiple affairs, his prowess/finesse with women, his perfect physique, perfect tan, and his incredible head of hair.

What about his willingness to subvert his Oath to the US Constitution; granted not a loyalty oath to CHEETO but to the United States of America??
That is an immediate disqualifier for me independent of any policies, programs or promises.  I consider that to be the foundation.  FWIW-
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

That's a pretty apt and entertaining quote Scottie, just more ironic in its use than you intended.

As you are well aware the affairs are fake news. As to his physique he is definitely not your typical pip squeak president. Towering 6 feet 5 inches and weighing in at a trim and ready 245 pounds he is an impressive sight to behold. Throw in that perfect tan and lions mane of hair and he is truly an incredible sight. A living Adonis.

@JohnInCarolina - maybe its because I live in TX, but I say it is naïveté on your part. Many folks here are fully on board with every cockamamie idea the Trumpster Fire has.

It should be noted that many brave patriots have suddenly become more vocal on the forum. Somehow, someone "not losing" an election drove them underground for a few years, but now they're back out of the woodwork.

  • “Magats” nice @caliking.  The main theme of your response was Lies! Lies!  The democrats have been trying to hide the biggest lie in my lifetime, Joe Bidens cognitive health, or the vaccine will stop the spread. They all lie, Kamala is pro fracking lol.

Democrats never stop man, 2016-2020 the home page of this forum 80% trump bashing 20% bbq posts. Look at Reddit, melting down. You guys never stop crying and pushing your agenda and if someone doesn’t agree with it you attack by throwing tantrums or acting like you are better than everyone who didn’t vote with you. A few weeks ago a member posted that it’s great that we supply weapons to kill Russians, I was more of the opinion that war is bad, kids fighting kids and no one wants to be there, so I was accused of “publicly supporting Putin”.  I guess the republicans don’t see a need to push their agenda online and be attacked by a bunch of keyboard cowboys.

Isn’t this, essentially, one big tantrum? It sure reads like one.

Regarding @caliking you might extend him a measure of grace.  Imagine how your view of the world might be influenced by your spouse receiving a letter (placed in your mailbox) that looks like this:

I hadn’t saved it on my computer.  It was in my SMS text history.  I had to go and dig it out.

I understand you’re upset that Reddit isn’t a fun place with cat pics and frog memes for you anymore, but … this can be a fun place?  You know, like one where people post their cooks and recipes?  You might want to try that out for a bit.

the real test will be policy vs popularity contest. when issues come back up to see how people feel about them and whether or not republicans follow.

trump backpedaled on proj 2025 hard.  so he is gonna navigate public opinion, which was largely against project 2025 and its drastic measures, and the people that bought his way back to power.

government agencies— you don’t have to go far to find waste. there are draconian measures to take and there are success measures to improve. watch to see if recommendations are about “here’s what we fix and how we measure success” like companies that win in the stock market or “here’s all the dumb dumbs we are getting rid of and the plan is have government stop doing anything”.  insert post office opinion here.

schools. the problem will be if people are ok with soaring private school funding, access and availability at the expense of public schools funding and quality. is it a long term plan to rid the country of immigration and ensure a large population of poorly educated americans to take their place in the economy?  maybe. sounds like a group of people that want to rest on their laurels and are scared of competing.

war sucks. endlessly supplying ukraine sucks. the country that started the war is the one all the companies pulled out of.  any interest in stopping the war that sounds like “just redraw the border” and also doesn’t include “rebuild repair” is defeat not compromise.  remember people saying putin was a better christian than biden.  that was unbelievable.

guns. people that brandish guns to feel more masculine and secure are hiding the same scaredy cat bs that bullies hide. that extreme has to go away.  look at third world countries and toyota tacomas full of armed militia. same emotions as trump trains. j6’ers were conned into believing lies and look what they did. guns are absolutely an asset to our country. gun lust is not.  will we get better or worse there?

so the honeymoon period will get tested soon enough.
