New Warranty Process (including used eggs)?

I’m not on here as much anymore so I’m sure this has been discussed, but has anyone seen the new warranty  program from BGE? They are allowing anyone to register any egg, bought new or used. I am stunned. Have confirmed 2 guys with used eggs who registered today and were not asked if they were the original owner. This is huge news for used egg owners in the US.

You have until 9/30 to register any egg:

it’s my understanding everyone should register any egg you have so you get access to the new streamlined warranty process.

The way I read it registration doesn't alleviate the proof of purchase option.  Step 2 after registering and starting a claim is to provide Proof of Purchase, unless registration is enough now?

So WTF is the point of the "Open Registration"?  If I don't register then I cannot get a warranty claim?  This seems like a half-baked idea again.

So after Sept. 30th if you haven't registered an old egg, then no warranty?  Or you still need to provide proof of purchase?

Don't think I will trust BGE to save my records.  Already did that and then they changed the goal posts.

Pre-2016 have no serial number.  They acknowledge that on a previous page.

I wouldn’t get rid of your proof of purchase even if you register.  I registered all my eggs and now they say that isn’t good enough still need your proof of purchase to register now or use the warranty.  It is on you to provide the proof of purchase.

This was my take as well but I talked to 2 guys today who said they registered 2nd hand eggs and nobody asked.

Same. I have my receipt in analog and digital form. Now I’m wondering, like you, is this no longer enough? I see that if it’s registered it streamlines the process but I would assume it does not void your warranty if you don’t register. This has been a pretty quiet rollout. I mean, why not post it here?

The way I read it is that a “new” registration would be proof.  Wondering if the above is for new purchases.  The open enrollment registration seems to ask about being original owner and have to submit pics of the egg but doesn’t talk about receipts.

Would it be too much to ask for BGE to offer clarification on this topic, on their forum?

I went through the process and it asked for proof of purchase.

edit: never mind.  Following that link works correctly and just want photos.  Going through it on the menus on the website didn’t bring me to that area.

Seems BGE would resolve their warranty claim headaches if they directed focus on producing a quality product.  Reminiscing to the heyday of Sears and their lifetime warranty on hand tools.  I own many that over 40 years old and are good as new.

I looked at the open registration page, there is something saying second hand Eggs do not qualify.

Eggs purchased secondhand (online marketplaces, yard sales, etc.), and not from an authorized dealer, are not qualified.

Although how would they differentiate between a second hand Egg and an Egg with the original owner who doesn't have the paperwork? 🤷‍♀️ Maybe they added that after someone saw this post. :)

I just called my dealer to ask about PofP from new XL purchase in 2013. They emailed it to me.

I’ll try to get my new registration completed today and post a follow-up post in this discussion.

    Thanks

I bought a Watkins Spa and a Large BGE from a local business in Melbourne, Fl - "Your Backyard Superstore" - and have the yellow carbon bill of sale. Somewhere if I can remember where I last saw it.

Like Ron, my dealer is also out of business. The last time I did business with them was 01/05/2015. However, I had/have a relationship with the owners of a butcher shop / BGE Dealer in Melbourne since I volunteered to help build the large number of eggs for their Eggfests for quite a few years.
I and was able to get a warranty replacement for a cracked fire ring thru them which I believe I had to give them a color scan of the original paperwork to do that.

I registered mine again because I can't get a straight answer from BGE on whether or not they have my info from when I got the egg in 2017.  One is none and two is one, right?  In regards to registering

@RRP - I completed the new registration process today.  There is verbiage on the site that addresses situations like you are in.  Have a look at the registration page, your Eggs should sail through the new process once they are aware of your history.
@Ozzie_Isaac on the other hand is likely SOL.  The BGE nest engineering errors that caused his base damage seems nullify warranty eligibility.  i.e. you can't register a Egg that has current defects.  WTH?

Thanks - I have a fairly good memory and I sure don't recall my registration cards had even a remote amount of the information that is on your card! Besides that my cards were torn out of the cookbook and mailed in. Do you mind telling me the copyright or printing date of your cookbook?

Received registration confirmation today.  This was done without a serial number as my Egg is pre-2016, I do have a receipt.
@fishlessman and @RRP and others without a receipt, you need to contact BGE support to get a approved exception.

Whoa!  Wait, the landing page is now different.  They seem to be changing this on the fly.  Now I am really confused.

i ended up going thru the chat room, they seem to be 2 days backed up. i mentioned the age of the eggs, no receipt, who i was, and that i was trying to RE-register them as they have been registered before and have had parts directly sent under warranty. thats back when bge packaged and had parts delivered directly to me when something went wrong with the base or the first year spring hinge or a firebox etc. my 2005 has a serial number under the gasket on the dome which i needed to find last time, kinda wonder if in 2016 they stopped hiding it under the gasket =)
