Yes, its my commuter. But I work from home 90% of the time. This gas hog already gets only about 15mpg so I'm not worried about the cost of gasoline.nolaegghead said:

New Rocksliders, front bumper with winch, rear bumper with tire carrier, and roof rack for my GX is gonna run about $15k. And that's before I touch the wheels or suspension. Eventually. Been spending most of my time lately around North Texas parks. Northwest OHV and Barnwell Mountain. Plan to eventually take it to Colorado and Utah. Most of the decent camping spots in Texas are near Austin and East of me. Or up North into ArkansasTechsasJim said:

Should have kept your 4 runner. The funniest thing I have ever seen off roading was at Uwharrie National forest, we rode one at a time up a gnarly hill, steep af, boulders here and there, not bad on atvs but technical. We sat at the top of the hill drinking beers and watching people struggle, two guys pull up with 70k range rovers, polo shirts, dress shoes, one even had dealer tags. I was blown away, they crawled right up the hill with wife’s in passenger seats and kids in the back I couldn’t believe it.TEXASBGE2018 said:And I thought Grilling stuff was expensive. There were only 3 tires making contact periodically. When we were heading in there was a f150 crabbing out that looked like it was broadsided by a bull dozer.nolaegghead said:

I was one of the idiots that bought a 2WD 4runner so that woulda been a no go. These GXs are literally Lexus badged Toyota Land Cruiser Prados. Everyone outside the US uses these for doing what 95% of jeeps do. Can't quite get the flex that jeeps do but I'm not doing hardcore Rock Crawling in this. My Kids love off-roading and camping. So we want to be able to get off the beaten path and through creeks to the good camping spots.alaskanassasin said:

One of my co-workers outfitted his Ford Raptor for overlanding/hunting purposes when he goes into CO, WY and UT. That sucker is so badass but he has to have about $150k into it. The overlanders I normally see are in Toyotas bc the parts are more readily available - at least on a macro level.TEXASBGE2018 said:

I used to hang out with a kid in my twenties who had parents with $$$. We did a ton of hunting/fishing/camping back east. They bought him a Range Rover for graduation. At the time I had an F150, 35” mud terrains. Nothing special, but did what I needed. I’m not gonna lie. He put me to shame with that Range Rover. It had lockers and street tires. It was unstoppable unless the snow got real deep. Amazing where it would go.alaskanassasin said:TEXASBGE2018 said:The funniest thing I have ever seen off roading was at Uwharrie National forest, we rode one at a time up a gnarly hill, steep af, boulders here and there, not bad on atvs but technical. My Wrangler has front and rear lockers, and transfer case functions as full-time 4wd (locked center) as opposed to AWD in the grocery getters. It usually gets me where I need too.fishlessman said:

My wife used to roll LR Discoveries back when they were not the varieties now. They were beasts and I did stuff in them that freaked people out (especially deep water traverses w/o a snorkel since the intake box was elevated).fishlessman said:

When you get up Utah way be sure to have "Matts Offroad Recovery" in your phone - he'll get you unstuck, give you a t-shirt, and put you on Youtube.

ETA yesterday, 3 boxes from 1st order. Only one box (80lb) came today, pleasantly surprised to see two guys carrying it carefully, vs the three-letter company guy dragging a much bulkier and heavier box up my driveway solo last year. The box was ripped due to poor packing but the two bags of pellets inside look pristine and smell amazing even without opening.
