Awe, that tile you put a deposit down on and we were supposed to order? Yeah, sorry. That is out of stock now. You need to pick a new tile. That tile was why you chose all the other colors? Well sorry, you can pick all new colors now. That fixture you picked? It is on a boat in California bay and has been for 6 months. We do not know when it will come in. Sorry, the trim guy went to Mexico and got arrested. Our other trim guy is booked for 3 weeks. Don't worry we will fit you in sometime.SamIAm2 said:
@Hook_emHornsfan_74 - @Ozzie_Isaac is absolutely correct as I personally can attest. You also will be the one to move all the current cabinets out of the area of mass destruction. Be glad that is not your only shower/bathroom. Oh, and you also get to hear some of my favorite comments/excuses, "supply chain issues" and "because of the pandemic".Ozzie_Isaac said:
That is going to be amazing! Prepare yourself though, they will not move faster then planned, you will be the one cleaning up after.them, and there will be extended periods of time while nothing is happening and everything is torn up.Hook_emHornsfan_74 said:
I'm thinking we should have just sold the house. lol This all started with a cracked tile in the shower. Now we are moving the shower and making one big wet room. Something like this. I probably shouldn't have let her meet with the contractor while I was at work. lolColbyLang said:Two words of advice…..move out
It will all be worth it, but be mentally prepared for it.
Also the timing of all subs will make no sense. They will keep having to redo and fix stiff, instead of just doing it in a sensible order.
You are in for a ride. Buckle up and just enjoy it. It will all eventually get done and will be amazing.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

@Ozzie_Isaac yeah looking forward to end product. Luckily the general contractor is a good friend of ours (well he is now), that might change when this is all said and done. lolMidland, TX XLBGE

I talked to Blake for the first time in maybe a year a couple weeks ago. Dwayne and Michael are on SMS groups I'm on and they're active daily.

No, it’s an 03 that hasn’t had functional brakes far about 20 months. But with no commute we haven’t needed a second car.fishlessman said:Acn said:With an impending return to the office, starting car shopping. This is not particularly fun.

The compressors are easy to replace. I just replaced the compressor in my True refrigerator. True gave me one under warranty. My unit uses the new R290 refrigerant. Being a commercial HVAC guy, we don't normally deal with the propane based R290, however the principles and techniques are the same- just on a tiny scale.kl8ton said:Getting a quote but....a compressor for the commercial freezer in my garage. I was very impressed with this process. I gave them the go ahead at 4pm last night. Tech called 756 this morning to put it in. Must have been in stock. I have no business putting in compressor and drier and charging system. Not my wheelhouse. It's older. I think 440 or 404 is the refrigerant?GregW said:

Decided to save the environment. Buying a solar system for the house. Now I can keep my house cold and my pool warm with abandon.

Is there much sun down by you? Will you keep your pool open year round? It seems like you would but while traveling NM and AZ, I couldn't find a campground with an open pool. They followed the kids school schedule with pool opening/closing.Ozzie_Isaac said:Decided to save the environment. Buying a solar system for the house. Have you decided on a system yet or just doing your initial research? I almost pulled the trigger when building our last house but the ROI was going to be about the time we were looking to sell the house so we decided to hold off.Ozzie_Isaac said:Decided to save the environment. I fear Ozzie's wife will list the house in 2 years and we will not get any more pics of the outdoor cooking compound.saluki2007 said:

We have dabbled in Solar estimates for a number of years. This was the third or fourth company we talked too. From an ROI standpoint it is probably pushing the window we would sell at. Not sure if financially it makes the most sense just looking at the numbers. That is driven by the really poor Solar terms our power company has in my district. If I was a few miles in either direction ROI would be around 5 years.kl8ton said:

However, emotionally I can keep the house as cold as I want, pool as warm as I want, and eliminate my reliance on propane for winter heat too. This is probably more an emotional decision than financial.
The 26% tax rebate helps too.
@kl8ton we talked about moving, but in the current market we would need to step up 3x in our original (2019) purchase price to find anything we like more. Plus with mortgage rates going crazy that just isn't in the cards. So far, we seem to be hunkering down for the long haul ..... Which means we will list and sell in a matter of months 🤣🤣I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

How have I gotten by without an ice maker WITH WiFi????
“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk -
Wi-fi as an obligatory feature these days. Instead of just turning something on you now need to fumble with a terrible app that is barely supported. Then in a few years it will go obsolete and you need a new icemaker.HeavyG said:How have I gotten by without an ice maker WITH WiFi????
My kid has a Segway with a bad Bluetooth module. Stupid thing is stuck is learning mode. It flashes it's lights and beeps its horn all the time. So I disassembled it and removed the horn and disconnected the lights. Now it goes slow, but silently.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

@Ozzie_Isaac I would think the heating of your pool would be minimal in your area. No? Do you have a way to cool the pool in the summer? Or is that what the ice maker is for?Snellville, GA
-
We have cool winters, and pool rides around 65 degree for a decent portion. I prefer 85-90 deg water. So this will keep it survivable all winter and in the summer the heatpump will also cool it if necessary (supposedly, but don't expect this feature will be used much).Eggdicted_Dawgfan said:@Ozzie_Isaac I would think the heating of your pool would be minimal in your area. This post resonates with me. I am usually a strong proponent of low-tech for this exact reason. I avoid app-dependent purchases like the plague. Against my better judgement, I was once coerced into a smartphone-synched Vitamix. Went exactly as I had anticipated. Promptly replaced with another Vitamix featuring the least number of buttons possible. My smart speakers are sleek and nice quality, but they are often less-than-smart and spy on me constantly. Everything is disposable these days and the long game seems out of focus for many manufacturers. “Off soapbox.”Ozzie_Isaac said:

How reliable has yours been?

Going on 3 years with it after the $4100 counter depth Electrolux fridge’s ice maker crapped out. It’s been great. We use tap water in the reservoir. I clean it when the little light turns yellow. Use a food safe ice maker cleaner solution I picked up locally.HeavyG said:ColbyLang said:Just remember to clean that Opal. Doesn’t take long. We have one. Love the ice
How reliable has yours been?Only downside is it doesn’t produce a lot of ice. Plenty for a average family. Not so much if you’re hosting a gathering. I usually bag up what’s in the bin 2-3 times and stick in the freezer to make sure we have enough when hosting
