Normally expensive as all get out. We use it for a flavor additive. I buy it in 55# bagsCanugghead said:Discovered a place that sells Amazon returns/discards. Picked this up for peanuts, what is it good for?

@no@nolaegghead you have no idea. The cost for these was way more than expected, but once you are in that deep, just keep digging.
We got the quote the same day I was notified my number came up to order a smoker from Aaron Franklin. So now everytime I look at these downspouts, I will think of the offset that could have been.Too late now for you, but... I have a 30Kgal cistern. The only other option down here is tanker trucks. Some people (down in the valleys) do have wells, but not many.My daddy always told me that when you are digging yourself into a deep hole, the first thing to do was to stop digging. Hmmm. What a conundrum.Always act so that you can tell the truth about how you act.

I have some friends with underground cisterns and other water collection devices. If I were on city water I might consider that, however, I am on a well, so my only cost is electricity for the pump. All the runoff filters down through the layers and eventually into the aquifer that my well is in, so I do not feel bad from an ecological stand point. Plus, I am in a riparian habitat so the water helps all the wildlife and plants around.MediumRarely said:Ozzie_Isaac said:

Same as sour salt. Great for adding a tart kick wherever a dish features lemon or lime juice, or vinegar. Also an excellent choice where you need to lower the pH, such as brewing beer, preserving food, caning, dissolving pectin, etc. I have a kilo and I use it at least once a week for various things. Also, like vinegar, it does remove scale and disinfects, but will leave a residue unlike distilled vinegar.Canugghead said:Discovered a place that sells Amazon returns/discards. Just bought 4 gallons of acid, 4 gallons of liquid chlorine, and 50lbs of chlorine tablets. Ouch! $350. Costco hasn't stocked tablets yet so had to go to a pool store.

We're switching our old bromine pool to a salt system as we type. A year in the making with supply chain shortages, lost shipments, etc. There was a bromine shortage last summer and I barely kept the pool running all summer for our customers.Ozzie_Isaac said:Just bought 4 gallons of acid, 4 gallons of liquid chlorine, and 50lbs of chlorine tablets. I have to get a new pic. It should all be plumbed by now. Hope to fill/ test next week ish.

Our water is very hard and salt water systems don't last very long. Couple that with our intense sun and how quick chlorine burns off and I opted for a chlorinator using tablets.MediumRarely said:Ozzie_Isaac said:Just bought 4 gallons of acid, 4 gallons of liquid chlorine, and 50lbs of chlorine tablets. My last pool even with a salt cell sized for a pool twice my size I had to run it almost 18hrs a day and cell lasted 1.5 years. Luckily it had a 5 year warranty.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Well, I'm glad I didn't believe you had thoughtlessly selected your system. I was told up front that chlorine generators are typically undersized (2x should be the standard size). Glad I did. We use rain water (or RO water from a tanker during droughts) from the cistern. Works well for us. If you have operated a pool before, I am sure you have (or will) everything under control. No leaks yet, I hope.

Florida is the perfect environment for salt lake water pools. The steady influx of rain water keeps the calcium levels low. We get about 12" of rain a year max. So our already high hardness levels just keeps getting higher and higher. Eventually you need to drain and refill. I would have preferred a chlorine generator setup, but our environment just doesn't make sense for it.MediumRarely said:Ozzie_Isaac said:

I am starting to research heat pumps with solar power setup. That seems like an excellent way to heat/cool the pool.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

I am starting to research heat pumps with solar power setup. That seems like an excellent way to heat/cool the pool.Let me know how it goes with direct solar powered heat pump. Higher amperage components - mine is 220V @ 45A min. (Aqua Cal). I ended up just putting 10kW of solar panels on the roof tied into the local utility (WAPA). I use the 200A service to my garage to feed the beast. I have a 30kW diesel generator for standby power rated at 125A - most people don't factor amperage needs (just kW) into the selection of generators. There are passive solar pool heating options out there - basically black tube sheets with a pump. Ugly to look at though, so you need space to hide.Always act so that you can tell the truth about how you act.

@Ozzie_Isaac It's been a while since I've had to take care of a pool but my dad switched to this several years ago and has been very happy with it. He was having an issue with "pink slime" and it was just eating the crap out of the chlorine and this took care of it.

We had to basically quintuple salt cell capacity to satisfy the health dept. I did not want a liquid chlorine tank to supplement in the extremely off chance that cells were not keeping up.Large, Medium, MiniMax, 36" Blackstone
