My new commercial grade billion BTU wok burner just showed up!

That looks pretty heavy duty! Where’d you pick it up?
The site looks completely shady, but is legit.  I talked to the owner and he was super nice and helpful.

Here is it in front of my Medium Egg.  Ignore the dust an mess.  Having a pool put in, and I am currently living in a Grapes of Wrath level dust bowl.

@Ozzie_Isaac  I just received an email from the owner, I should receive mine in about a week.  It was a nice surprise, I did not expect it to ship until a couple of months!  Now I need to find a decent wok…
Got mine at a little shop in Chinatown a few years back. Carbon steel with a single handle. Has been great. While this is an unpopular view, for my purposes on the Egg, I far prefer a single handle over the double Ds.

I prefer the one long handle with the D on the opposite side.

That works too. My aim was to indicate that there is a great advantage in being able to manoeuvre the wok with a single hand.

definitely the single handle, way more easy to use.  i think some think they are going to use it with the dome closed on their wok cooks when they first purchase

Don't call them handles, call them what they are: hand burners.

I already have one with the two D shaped  handles (hand burners) but I am looking for one with a long wooden handle and maybe a D handle too.  I am debating between a round and a flat bottom.

Also, I recommend a welding glove.  I use a dishtowel on the handle a lot of the time to shield my hand from the heat, but a welding glove works even better.  Even with the built in heat shield, this thing pumps out serious heat.

Could  have had another egg for the price of this order.  (This just reinforces the fact that the egg is the least expensive part of this hobby).  I couldn't find equivalent knock off shelves for my Delfield freezer. It seems like most of the shelves have a half price equivalency product that is sold.   Not a standard size.  Had to pay the long dollar, but still cheaper than having them fabricated.  Can't wait to organize the freezer a bit better.

Easy to do with the two d handles - it's all in the technique/practice. You don't always need to actually pick up the wok to toss its contents:

Tossing is much easier when using a real wok burner. When using a grill or stove then I would agree that a long handled wok (where you might actually have to pick up/lift the wok) is easier to toss.

We burn about 800 gallons a year and live in Ohio. I would think you would use a lot less in Arizona? I have a gas oven and furnace, water heater and dryer are electric.  If I had more foresight we would have installed a hybrid heat pump and propane.

I have 2 gas furnaces and 2 gas water heaters, plus a stove.  We also feel like we might possibly freeze to death if the house temp drops below 68 degrees.  In addition to that, the 500 gallon tank only gets filled to 400 gallons (80%) and I fill it when it gets to 175 gallons (35%), so the three fills equates to 675 gallons/year.

propane heat is ridiculous this year, my tiny 1000 sqft home is averaging just under 700 bucks just turning the heat up to 55 for a few hours at night 4 days a week. doing the cooking and laundry at camp where everything is electric and electric heat, bill up there is just under 300 a month with the 83 percent increase per kilowatt/hour they hit us with this year. house is wired for electric, almost want to put the electric heaters back in

@Ozzie_Isaac we run 72 degrees all winter. Last time I filled the tank it was around $1.29 a gallon. A few weeks ago we were down around 20% so I had them swing by give us a 250 gallon shot at 3.29 to hold us over until I can lock in a hopefully cheaper price.
Our electric runs around $80 to $100 a month. Is phase one switch to electric and phase 2 solar?  I have thought about it (solar) but using a $1,000 a year in electric I think it would be a long time to roi.

I went round because I’ve always preferred bottoms that way.

I was worried about stability on the Egg, but between the grate spacing and the resting of the handle on the lip of the base, it’s a total non issue.

round is better with the rounded wok shovel (or whatever those things are called).  flat would be better on an electric stove but then the wok shovel doesnt work properly

Looks nice. I believe mine is about that diameter. I like that the handle points upward, thereby reducing the chance of knocking it against the internals and chipping the Egg. You’ll want to ensure the wood portion is fully outside of the Egg, as otherwise, there’s a risk it’ll burn. Will you be cooking on the grate, or in some other configuration?
  • @nolaegghead did you find the grabo pros for $100? I just paid $310 each for 4 of them. But I’ll take 4-6 more if they are available for a hundo each. That’s a steal even for the regular grabo.
