The vaccine is sent out based on state eligibility numbers or where the outbreak is raging.  So where you have massive numbers of eligible people that are anti-vax for whatever reason and don't want to get immunized, it's pretty easy to get the vaccine.  In other cases state government is slow/incompetent.  As you can very well imagine, Louisiana made it very easy for me to get vaccinated.  New Orleans was in the news as the most vaccinated big city early on in the process.  I'm guessing they shifted supply to where there was demand.

On another thread I mentioned that I can see available vaccine appointments broken down by county. One indisputable fact is that counties in the Mississippi Delta are not taking advantage of their available vaccine. Make of that what you will. Right now casinos on the coast are paying their employees $150 per vaccination plus a days paid leave. How long before they say it’s just a requirement to work there?

If everybody above 16 got vaccinated the masks could go away. Pretty simple. In the meantime if you are eligible for the shot and haven’t taken it then the masks aren’t the problem.
Probably not.  Unfortunately the B-117 variant is spreading through the schools, and we're now seeing more kids getting sick.
I haven't heard of this variant.  Do the current vaccines protect against said variant?

Just a suggestion, try the local pharmacy. They are often not listed on the State websites but most are giving vaccinations now.

I really think if our governor was a little more transparent and of moral substance, Michiganders would be more apt to follow the guidelines she puts forth.  I feel the way she went about things created a huge resistance culture.

That is the UK Kent variant. Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J protect against it from what I’ve read. They are less protective against the South African and Brazilian variants but they still reduce spread and will keep you out of the hospital. Booster shots for the variants are being developed and should be ready this fall.

All of our smaller grocery stores (that have pharmacies in them) are advertising that they have (or will have) the vaccines when supply catches up.

The vaccine unfortunately does not prevent a person from getting COVID or spreading it. All it does is reduce or eliminate the illness from it for the person that took the vaccine. So, I think one negative taking the vaccine is that there will be more asymptotic people ... they have the virus but don't have any symptoms because the vaccine is suppressing them ... so there's more spreaders.  The data will show the virus infection rate is coming down, but would that only be because a person won't get tested if they don't feel sick??

Michigan is getting extra vaccine because the outbreak is so severe there.  I'm surprised you haven't heard of the B117 variant, as it's been all over the news for months and has caused a massive wave in Europe and was predicted long ago to spread and do the same in the US.  And that's where we are, at the beginning of that wave.  Not hearing of it makes me assume you either don't read the news or watch it, or maybe in lieu of right wing political propaganda, which doesn't really talk about it, at least from a public health perspective.

So the vaccine protects you from the variant then?

Yes.  We have not encountered any variants the vaccine's are completely ineffective towards insofar as preventing severe illness/death.  But the current vaccines work very well with the B117.

It's bad news.  Every country that has had it appear has seen a significant uptick in cases once it reached critical levels.  And unfortunately, in contrast to the early versions of the virus, it is spreading through the schools.  So it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that we just opened many of those up, right as the B-117 was gaining speed.  More here:

Would it be fair to say people in Michigan have chosen what guidance to listen to along political lines and many chose the contradictory messaging coming from the White House?  Or do you think lack of compliance is equal across party lines in Michigan?

This isn't true.  The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are 95% effective at preventing COVID-19 infections. J&J is 76%.

Yeah, the most recent data is indicating that vaccinated people aren’t shedding the virus.  There’s a good chance the CDC releases updated guidance this summer that basically tells vaccinated people that they can go back to living their lives like they were before the pandemic.

She fired the director of health for the state and he was paid 155k severance to not speak about his departure.  His staff was fired too. To my knowledge we have no info on this.

Our governor eased restrictions enough so she could get her boat in the water in time for some summer fun.  Her husband called their marina and tried to use her influence to get their boat in the water before everyone else.

Those are the first two that come to mind.

I know of large parties at her places up north and in her mansion where masks were no where to be found. Somewhat hypocritical.

She has so far come off as a do what I say and not as I do type leader.

Some militia members did try to kidnap her... that was not cool.

I DO remember ALL of those reports in the news! To me then regardless of "your" political connection a crappy HIGH ranking politician & spouse doing those things were STUPID no matter what party you support. And NO, I never thought that kidnapping idea was cool either! JUST STUPID!!!

Agree.  It’s more of a politician thing than party related. Cruz, Newsome, etc.

She was the Indiana Chamber of commerce's person of the year!  (Unofficial- someone took out a billboard space making this announcement)  Droves of Michigan residents drove the 1,2, even 6 hour round trips many times to dine-in at restaurants in Indiana when ours were shut down for so long.

Some real fear mongering in here too... "30% brain disease" at least the original article mentions that includes anyone that reported anxiety and was drastically higher is hospitalized patients.
