How is this stuff. I've seen it at a local grocery store ... the packaging definitely caught my attention, but is it any good?
Sorry, I was just trying to lighten up this thread. I have not used it.

hmm....I’ve burned a couple thousand pounds of Rockwood and haven’t noticed this. In fact, cooked a nice ribeye today with it at about 600*

In Columbus, Ohio, Rockwood is in short supply. ACE does not now what brand or brands will show up on their Wednesday truck. Have not seen Rockwood in a month or so. My latest choice was $27 for a bag of BGE or Cowboy. Miss the days of three bags, free shipping from Rockwood. F UPS.

I can't even find briquettes around here. Any kind of charcoal has been non-existent for about 3 weeks now. I used the last of my Maple Leaf yesterday.
Guess I'm gonna have to dust off the gasser.

I think what @rrp want to know is, have you changed your gasket?

I'm on my second bag of Rockwood and the first bag was a disappointment. It had several large chunks but primarily small, like the 1" size Lowcountrygamecock described. In fact, that first bag closely matched my experience. The second bag seems better. Medium BGE with KAB.

I would love to have bags of RW with small pieces for my Mini. I get tired of breaking large pieces every time I have to fill it up.

Same here except that I’m using the mini waaaaaay more than the small or the large. They are both setting vacant of lump right now.  Lol.

Ok, boys and girls...for some of you who made fun of me for my lump reducing screen...

Then here it was during the smashing of 20+ pounds of huge pieces...Since I use my Small BGE at least 80% of the time I need smaller pieces.

I use my stainless ash scrapper thingy to smash the lump into smaller pieces after I dump it into my egg.  I get more lump more consistently packed that way.  The big lump is for showing off, the small lump is for gettin the job done.

No but I Edited and added you to the original list. It’s worthy of mention since you went there twice.

Sounds like the OP got the perfect lump to cook a 22 hour 4.5 lb pork butt.

Try some of the independent BBQ stores that sell BGE or other ceramic cookers.   My local Bast store had some a few weeks ago.

But you are correct, it’s getting harder to find.

I picked up a 24lb bag for $24 at Academy.  Ace isn’t convenient for me and last couple of bags of Rockwood I picked up had too much dust.  I have tried and like FOGO and I’d rather break larger pieces into smaller ones than deal with the dust.  FOGO has free shipping on orders over $35 so if I don’t like B&B I’ll probably stick with them.

Thanks. I will try some of those stores you mentioned the next time I make a trip to London. Might have to do that this weekend. Stratford and St Marys are totally sold out.
