They have science labs of course. I don't know what UNC is doing for those. Some universities are setting up "virtual" labs using a number of techniques. But of course you wouldn't expect there to be a lab fee for that.Gulfcoastguy said:
They don’t have chemistry, biology, and physics labs any more? They definitely don’t have to heat, cool, or clean classrooms. Public facilities like libraries and cafeterias don’t have to be operated. Security guards aren’t needed. Grounds maintenance can be reduced. Gyms are closed. I have a cousin’s child who has a full scholarship including dorm room.
I think there's a basic misunderstanding of how university finances work that's at play here, however, as well as how a modern university functions. That's probably a longer discussion. If you want to get into that, we can start a new thread or you can DM me.
The short story is that the reality with college tuition these days is that many students do not pay full price. Their need is met in some way. So students who are paying full price are essentially subsidizing those who can't afford to do so. And what happens during a pandemic? Well, more students can't afford to pay as much, and the top universities (of which UNC is undoubtedly one), meet that additional need. So they are already losing money, lots of it, the total of which far exceeds all of the minor things you mentioned."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike
"The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand." - Deep Throat -
I understand the request for refunds and tuition breaks, however, with this being a rather sudden change, schools are still structured for F2F instruction. They still have buildings, facilities, teachers, admins, student aids, etc. They still have bills, just like companies who are paying for unoccupied office buildings.
I get it, I paid F2F tuition for private school, even when it was remote and that was a bitter pill initially. However, I appreciated the hoops they have been jumping through for remote schooling. It is not an easy or seamless change (or cheap). Ultimately, it was beneficial still. One teacher for 10 kids was an easier transition than 1 teacher for 30 kids. My child still received quality instruction. Friend's kids were told just to login to Zoom to get their "hours" even when there was no content.
I fully expect changes in the future, but this is a major change and will take time to sort out.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Okay- I am old and have a lawn but used to be pretty good with acronyms, based on a previous life experience but did have to ask google for translation. Seems F2F escaped my capacity. I'm good with DILLIGAF, BOHICA and others but generationally challenged. BTW - I do not do Bookface.
I need to up my game...Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
Sorry Cap, I'm lazy. Should always spell out 1st use of acronym. F2F = Face to Face.. I believe, you would have called it "In person" in the 80s.lousubcap said:Okay- I am old and have a lawn but used to be pretty good with acronyms, based on a previous life experience but did have to ask google for translation. I'm partial to the term "meatspace" in lieu of the 'ol "in person" but on a "bbq forum" (I've been told that's what this place is) I could see where that might cause some confusion.Ozzie_Isaac said:

Hanging tenders? Is that same as Hanger Steak? Which happens to be a pretty tasty cut. Either way, cook looks nice!Lit said:Chicken thighs and hanging tenders.

Dam Son. You are a rookie. Get a Yeti or keep your drink further from the grill. Warm beer sucks.Battleborn said:

Found one of favorite steels that I haven’t seen in several years. A good ole Victorinox 12” smooth cut.

Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.
Status- Standing by.

I don't care who you vote for or what party you are affiliated with, it was cool seeing Air Force One land and take off around corn fields this afternoon.

"meatspace" sounds more like a NAMBLA term than bbq forum.HeavyG said:

I believe this one is the smaller of the two. I think the bigger plane stayed back at MSP. It was cool to see this size plane come down on a smaller landing strip of its size.Mattman3969 said:

Middle child’s birthday and she wanted egged pizza. Haven’t made one in way too long. I didn’t have the stone hot enough for round 1, but 2 was perfect.

Yes, this is a modified 757 which is commonly referred to as Air Force 2. The airplane most people associate with Air Force 1 is a modified 747. But any Air Force aircraft carrying POTUS would have callsign Air Force 1.WeberWho said:

Used a thermometer on my indoor gas range today to find out the therm characteristics regarding the temperature maintaining performance.
Using the old daisy wheel on my BGEggs is more consistent than my indoor oven.
I have seen 75⁰F temp swings (below to above), set at 225⁰F, where measurements and recorded data reveals the XL and the mMx only waiver about 30⁰F (below to above).
Kind of cool data to share."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

My old weber fire pit was about to rust out so decided to redo it. Grinded everything that isnt porcelain coated back to metal and primed, painted, and sealed with VHT paint. New SS hardware. Gonna bust it out when we have people over if the GT UCF game happens.
