What are you cooking and how are you preparing for the National Emergency?

Options
I'm thinking maybe some burgers if I can drag myself out of a state of man prostrate slash crying ball of fear.

Oh, the horror and fear.  Dark times, etc.   Sky is falling.

What are you cooking?  And how do you manage?

Note to self: Make sure generator is working and check food and ammo rations.   Are the gates locked?

Note: making light of this NATIONAL EMERGENCY is akin to admitting it is farcical.  So take it seriously or you are denigrating our supreme leader and there will be hell to pay.

I'm thinking grind some brisket and belly up with the course die.  Salt ONLY before throwing on the grill.  Medium rare is almost over-cooked.

So I've taken inventory of all the weapons in the house.  I have loaded all magazines up.  Every nook and cranny has a knife, gun, pepper spray, taser or bottle of ghost pepper.  Planning and strategy = survival.  I suggest you all do the same. No telling where the nefarious invaders may lug their meth and blindfolded sex-slaves.  This is uncharted territory.

Any suggestions on the best cheese for the burger?

Godspeed, all.  For those that survive this, as long as the interwebs are up, I'll be here to offer support and guidance.

Bun - should I try to bake something or is it cool to buy some buns?

Rumor has it the cartel has infiltrated the buffalo's account so there is a good chance this thread may be thwarted and not survive the onslaught.  If so, be strong.  RD has 55 pound sacks of tipo 00 flour, this can sustain a family for weeks, I suggest preparing in earnest.

Can you make good buns from tipo 00 flour?  Do they work well with burgers?

Is anyone out there?  Are we a day late and a dollar short?  I'm freaked out!

80/20 is the standard, I wonder if I can cut the fat and do like 90/10.  Any advice?  Will it be juicy?

Great idea, I'll feel better if I see evidence of all my forum brothers preparing, both for the NATIONAL EMERGENCY and in a culinary way.  Y'all, post your preps.

What thickness of steel plate can I line my walls with to stop the scourge?  1/4" seems too thin, maybe 1/2"?

    Also, burger thickness....any thoughts?

Crap! Was I supposed to make the obligatory "ain't nobody taking my guns" comment? Does it apply here? I get so confused

That's certainly implied during these trying times.  I think we need to all come together and make some neighborhood barriers, so anyone with extra tires in your hood, (or junk cars) organize and burn them to block egress into your suburban castles.

Since this is in fact a food forum, I think we should focus on what you are cooking today.  But stay VIGILANT!!!  Scary stuff out there!  Be safe!  Scared and alive is better than lackadaisical and dead.

Good work, Steve.  Make sure you are locked and loaded with all the accoutrements.  Like salsa and assault weapons.

I just cleaned the lenses on all my surveillance cameras and I'm installing a perimeter of punji sticks.

I figure I can use the punji sticks for kabobs after the National Emergency is over.

Robin, don't make light of this.  We just drank a few (dozen) energy drinks.  What could possibly go wrong?
