Had some Lazzari mesquite like that, stuff was so hard I had to use an 8# maul to break it up. Sometimes chips and dust is OK....

We can rule out RO from home depot.  That stuff will make an egg look yuuuge.

Somebody here has gotta try this as an excuse with the wife.

Is bigger lump better for low and slow or is FOGO better? I’ve never used FOGO but hear it’s good.

I'm not a fan of the very large pieces for L&S.  With the small volume of fire going, I think you can end up with a failure of the fire to move from the large burning hunk to another pice based on the gap potential.  I have no scientific evidence for this however.  Saturday AM rambling...

Better to save that comment for Saturday morning rather than throw it out there on Friday night!

I think FOGO is like ultra-premium Rockwood, but made from the rarest of rainforest woods.  All deadfall that’s collected by indigenous tribes, shipped downriver in canoes.  They have a network of regional hobbyists that kiln that wood within 60 miles of the store where it’s purchased, so there is very little shatter.

So, FOGO is an acronym for "Found On Ground Overseas"?   =)

Oh, and the last "flameout" I had was with the "bottom of the bag", lots of small pieces; I had lit it in the center top with a single square as I used to do (I now use the paper towel method) and the fire burned an almost perfect cylinder, straight down, and went out without lighting the lump to the sides.  Wish I'd taken a picture of that, never seen that before or since.
