I rinse larger cuts to to make sure there's no bone chips/dust from the band saw or loose bone pieces or bits of trimmings. I don't think for a minute it's more 'sanitary', just cleaner. Steaks and such, not so much unless I see something on them.

I put shampoo in my hair, then towel it dry.  In all fairness, I just read the thread subject.
No wonder you walk funny......soap crust on the pubic hair wil do that,

Never rinse most meats, maybe the odd butt, but then we ofte cook only 1/2 at a time, rinsing makes it easier to handle, not safer.

been reading some internet that says thou shall not rinse,
There is certainly a time and a place for everything. To rinse or not? Simply use your better judgement with the meat before you. Is a rinse required across the board? Certainly not. Is there times it brings a benefit? Certainly. I'm sure that you were asking about carcass extractions and not organs. However most organs should be rinsed and rinsed throughly. Notice I did say "most" and not "all". Off of a clean cut and healthy animal, the heart and brain need not be rinsed. Carcass extractions that lay adjacent to organs should be rinsed initially as well. With that said, most store bought meat has already had an initial rinse and/or scrape performed somewhere between removal and processing. Thus, with no visible residue or debis, a rinse on your part is not a necessity. However it will not hurt a thing.

    I rinse

i worked with a kid in the meat department who would randomly snort up some phlegm and spit it into the 99 cent a pound steak tips (ca 1983)

and i myself forgot to put a plastic bin under the output hole of the thing we'd run the subprimals thru to be chopped up.

It all landed on the floor in the backroom of the meat department. I told my manager, expecting to be fired. He shrugged and kicked a bin over to me and we picked it up and plopped it in.

are you sure todays kids do that nowadays =) seen a stolen pumpkin on the road this morning, it wasnt smashed, so confusing

I rinse ribs every time I cook them.

I cooked 2 slabs of BB yesterday. If I didn't rinse, I would have been eating a lot of tiny bone shards. I tend to not rinse beef (ie Steak). I just either use Clorox to clean sink or just use hot soapy water to decontaminate afterwards.

good thing we went to gelt's in the depot, my dog back then used to run down to gelt's, through the automatic doors, down isle 2 to the meat counter where they gave her a nice big bone to drag home =) different times, the cop would even stop traffic on rte 28 to let her cross at the depot

I never rinse meat out of a "white styrofoam tray covered with Saran Wrap", nor meats wrapped by my meatmonger in butcher paper.  I always rinse meats coming out of a cryo-pak.
There is no method, madness, or scientific reason I do this.  I just do.  :i_dunno:

I do the same exact thing.

I have been doing that for years. To my wife's dismay, she has walked in on me washing other unmentionables in the sink as well :o
