There is absolutely no easy, sound bite fix to this. The western world has never understood the region, and it isn't likely to start now. We broke it, and we bought it, but for 60+ years (ever since the US assassinated the last democratically elected ruler in a Muslim country) we haven't known the first thing to do. Eisenhower on down have been screwing up in the region, but I'm glad that a bunch of guys with expensive grills know what to do now."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

It's like the stop and frisk in NYC... Proven to bring guns off the street but some lawyer from the ACLU has to drag everyone into to court because there sterotyping. It's common sense if your brown on Arizona and are near known illegal immigration crossing points that ICE should at least be able to pull you over to check if your legal. We are handicapping our police force with political correctness.YukonRon said:

Those pesky lawyers at the ACLU. Why are they so focused on Civil Liberties all the time, right?Davec433 said:

Why didn't coalition forces bomb the sh!t out of the ISIL strongholds a couple weeks/months ago? Why did they have to wait for Paris to happen?

Are they "bombing the sh!t" out of it now, or is it mostly just for show? What I read yesterday indicated that the French sorties add up to a small fraction of what the US has already put down.DoubleEgger said:Why didn't coalition forces bomb the sh!t out of the ISIL strongholds a couple weeks/months ago? Since 9/11 the "scaredy-cat-ification" of 'Murica has caused so many to willingly accept the usurpation of the 4th amendment.
It's actually quite gobsmacking that the US has built a surveillance system/state that would be the envy of the Stasi and most peeps don't really seem to care. It's as if having some guy in a trench coat and fedora stopping folks at random and saying in a heavily Germanic accent "Papers please" is something these people really want.
One could argue that those who value security over freedom probably deserve neither as the saying goes.
So yeah, thank God at least the "troublemakers" at the ACLU continue trying to keep a check on unwarranted government power/intrusion.
The funny thing about stop and frisk was that only 10% of the folks stopped were white yet;
So there’s the constitutional question. But the next two statistics are eye-catching because they appear to undermine the city’s more fundamental argument about the effectiveness of stop-and-frisk.- Weapons were seized in 1.0 percent of the stops of blacks, 1.1 percent of the stops of Hispanics, and 1.4 percent of the stops of whites.
- Contraband other than weapons was seized in 1.8 percent of the stops of blacks, 1.7 percent of the stops of Hispanics, and 2.3 percent of the stops of whites.

Not bulls#it. It did happen. FBI tracked these two men down. They were here, both with multiple passports, hanging out in a college town that is located equal distance from Nashville and Louisville, that also is a very transient community, not far from Fort Cambell home of the 101st Airborne and the 5th Special Operations Group. It was a sting operation. Rand Paul may be questionable at best, but he is correct on this one.HeavyG said:"Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Sooooo do we take it further to discuss why prison population, by race is statistically disproportionate to population as well?
Having the unpleasant and unfortunate opportunity to witness first hand how both wiretapping and ground surveillance worked at stopping the body count at 2, (one directly and one indirectly) I will tell you now, I understand why they are there. I would also rather have these items in place, than a military patrol being SOP in my neighborhood.
The only time this is acceptable is when there is War.
Aside from the planes slamming into our buildings, (as well as other attacks on our military) the slaughter in Mumbai, the bus explosions in England, the attacks in Spain, the downing of a Russian Jetliner, the situation in Canada, oh and recently, the attacks in France, I can't imagine why we alarmists would give up some privacy for higher security."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

Excuse me, but it was your uninformed interpretation, of my post, that you took it as somehow related to the "Paris bombings" (and slaughtering of innocent hostages). Or did you misinterpret what happened in Paris as well? No matter. I now know to avoid your judgement, posted comments should be delivered with reference. Sitting in Reagan National, while they were unloading a plane and searching folks, I was more caught up in that.HeavyG said:

Security was so tight there yesterday, they stopped two folks riding bikes at the airport. They were painfully Caucasian by the way. Two police squads had them on the ground. Profiling I suppose.
My point I tried to make, yet failed to do, was establish there are people here in The USA, trying to make an effort to do bad things, In other words that slaughter, could have been here.
Next time you need a better understanding of a point, ask me. I will break it down for you.
Shenanigans, as you interpret in your mind, is a bit more serious in mine. Save your BS comments for low and slow cooks.

Looks like Republican Governors in mass are trying to stop the Syrian refugees from coming to their states and Congress may attempt to defund this Syrian immigration nonsense.
