I understand that it isn't always possible to separate logic from emotion. And that is not the point I was attempting to make.blasting said:HeavyG said:
If you say so. Dead is dead.Davec433 said:There is a real difference between getting struck by a bus and getting shot by a Terrorist. Ones dumb luck and the other by nature causes fear. Plus if we weren't separated by two oceans from where all these Muslims come from those numbers would be a lot higher.
It seems to me that a half million deaths due to car crashes in the past decade and a half is something other than just "dumb luck". It seems to me that it indicates a systemic failure that we could ameliorate. But we don't cuz since they're just "dumb luck" then (shrug)"eh...waddya gonna do"(shrug).
I suppose the way to drive the point home is to take it personal.
If I had a family member killed in a car wreck that would be horrible. If I had a family member killed by a Muslim suicide bomber because they hated our country... well, surely you can see the difference.
You are correct, dead is dead. They are gone forever, but the situations are nowhere near the same. You cannot equate an accident with senseless murder.

You're right. Christians aren't the ones doing that in the last couple of decades. Go back in the last few centuries tho and you see that when it comes to burning people alive, drowning them, raping them, and enslaving them that Christians can be just as depraved and barbaric.Davec433 said:
Christians aren't the ones rampaging across the Middle East burning people alive, drowning them, raping women, crucifying Christisns, blowing them up and taking slaves. You don't reason with these people you deal with them like a rabid dog. But the majority are moderate right? Where were the moderate majority when the Nazis were putting Jews in ovens? They were irrelevant just like these moderates that aren't preventing the radicals from taking over.HeavyG said:
On the other hand we should remember that the Oklahoma bombing was carried out by a couple of white, Christian, military veterans. I guess that's probably not relevant today because "we all know" that only Muslims are terrorists.
I have no idea what all Muslims believe. I'm pretty sure tho that the vast majority of them, say 99.99999999999999999%, of the 1.6 billion of them aren't really all that different from the rest of us - just hoping to live a quiet peaceful life with adequate food, clothing, and shelter. A life where they can laugh and love and see their children have a chance for a decent future.
But you could be right. Perhaps we should just round up as many as we can and drown them at sea. That will certainly solve the problem.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk -
I think people are simply trying to add some perspective to things. We have tried more than a few things when it comes to dealing with terrorism. What's your suggestion for how to deal with this?jeroldharter said:
I would like to bury my head and ignore the obvious because it is uncomfortable. But Islamic terrorism is a pestilence that will not die on its own. Taking more time (maybe another thousand years or so?) to "better understand why they don't like us" is pointless. ISIS we destroy their leadership, crush their morale, enable their enemies to help in the fight and don't let anyone from a country with ties to a terrorist country come here unless they are fully screened. If not enough info in them they don't come here.

As evidenced by the thoughts on this thread, no one has an answer how to deal with these cowards. But I think we can make it harder for them to do their damage. France is a good example, open borders, police not armed. I know this will piss some of you off, but we DO need to profile. I Have several relatives on my wife's side who could pass for middle eastern, and I can gaurantee you none of them would be upset by being delayed to check their passports and luggage, if it makes things safer. That's because this forum is the online equivalent of standing around the tailgate of a pickup truck drinking. Where all of life's problems are solved.

"In my hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky, we had two Iraqi refugees who were let into our country who were plotting to buy stinger missiles a few years ago, but they got arrested and put in jail. "
So you're saying that yet again a pair of baddies is trying to buy shoulder fired missiles in Kentucky? WTF? Is Kentucky some kind of hotbed of stolen weapons of war? It doesn't piss people off, but it does offend the constitution that established our government. There is absolutely no easy, sound bite fix to this. The western world has never understood the region, and it isn't likely to start now. We broke it, and we bought it, but for 60+ years (ever since the US assassinated the last democratically elected ruler in a Muslim country) we haven't known the first thing to do. Eisenhower on down have been screwing up in the region, but I'm glad that a bunch of guys with expensive grills know what to do now.LBGE
