My grandma has come to visit from Guatemala and I've invited her and my parents over for dinner this weekend. Last time she visited was over 2 years ago and I doubt I could have cooked a box of Mac n cheese. I'd like to show off the Eggs and what I've learned about cooking, but I'm at a loss for ideas on a great meal.
Was thinking something Spanish influenced, or maybe surf n turf. Paella has been on my mind, but I've never done it before. I just really would like to wow her!
Thanks!

That's a tough one but, the first thing that popped into my pea sized brain us pulled pork. Sorry I couldn't come up with something better.

Rib roast always makes a statement.

This is prety simple and taste awesome. My in-laws brought it over for me to cook and I highly recommend it. Do you have a Mexican or Spanish grocery store near you. It makes the best fajitas I ever had. http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/1172636/arrachera-marinada-for-dinner-anyone-ever-heard-of-it#latestXL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

I'd go w. surf and turf. I suppose Grandma would be pleased if you tried making a Spanish influenced dish, but she could probably make it better.
I have a rule for myself. Never serve to company something I haven't made successfully for myself at least twice. More often than not, the first try is less than stellar.
I was looking over Guatemalan recipes. Seems like there are quite a few chicken dishes. Maybe do a nice spatch'd chicken. Or to be fancier, game hens.

Sorry forgot to add this. Wouldn't your grandma eat Guatemalan food all the time. Wouldn't grandma like to eat something she wouldn't normally cook for her self.

Perfectly cooked chicken and pork are one of the great things the egg does well. If your not going for pulled pork or brisket here are some of my cooks that people still talk about:And here are a couple of beef postsWhole beef tenderloin with Soy/Mustard paste, spice rub & worcestershire glaze (this one I did on sunday and it turned out awesome!)Make sure you do something you are going to enjoy cooking, some of these have lots of prep work but not much after they hit the egg. Which isn't for everybody, but makes the dishes worth making.Paella on the LBGE! is always a crowd favorite. But you might want a trial run first, since it has so many steps.Good luck finding something to cook. Abt for starters for sure. Some skewered shrimp. I just did some non fried boom boom shrimp inspired by bonefish grill and maybe a spatchcock chicken or some pork chops. Just some thoughts. Hope it helps.LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

Pork tenderloin is my go to! Either rubbed or marinated... Fast, easy and really good! Just did 2 for my in-laws and they were very happy.

Yucatan food is heavy on grains and beans. Neither of those really lend themselves to the egg as well as meats do. The sopas, stews and so on are really good on the egg but if it were me, I would go with what I was most happy with.

You want to wow her, what is your best cook? Stay with what you know, what you don't know can hurt you - well at least your pride. Good luck, enjoy the family visit.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!
