Little issue while prepping the egg...

So I'm prepping the egg for ribs this afternoon. Added my lump, started the fire and closed the dome. I went inside to prep the ribs and when I came back out the fire took off the the thermometer went around to around 1000 degrees. I put the daisy wheel on and closed the doors and the temp has come down to around 500 degrees. I went to open the dome and it won't open. I guess what was left of my gasket melted together. Anyone ever experience this? What should I do? Help!!!

Work around with a putty knife. Once open, take advantage and remove all of that pesky gasket and get on with your life...
Wear gloves

I would gently try to pry it open with a screw driver. Gently!ScooterMid TN. Hangin' in the 'Boro. MIM Judge

A razor knife works best. IMO
I find when cooking a timer is your best friend. Use one.

It's funny, the couple of gaskets I have fused have been the ones that stayed on longest.

I've used both.they both lasted around 6 months or so. maybe a year. I'm down to what used to be recognizable as a gasket on the base only at the moment. Seems to work just fine. this one is the BGE. My hiQ came unglue and fell in the fire. I kept waiting for the "bad smoke to clear" but after an hour i went out and found it in the fire. I smoked out the entire block )Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX -
I'm going to contact the mothership and see if they will send me a replacement gasket. If they won't I'll probably go with no gasket for a while. What do nomex/rutlands run? 30-50 bucks?L-BGE | Westminster, MD
